“For what?” I ask softly.
“For loving me the way you do.”A kiss to my cheek.“For not being afraid to love again.”A kiss to my other cheek.“For telling me how much I mean to you.”A kiss to my nose.“For not giving up on us when I needed time.”A kiss to my forehead.“And lastly, for loving me for who I am. I know I come with a lotof baggage at times, and I’ve gotten us into bad situations, but you were always there to save me. I don’t know many men who would’ve stuck around after all that.”A kiss to my lips.
I hold her mouth captive, not letting her go. It grows desperate, heated, and eager. Sophie is my everything, and not one bone in my body doubts that we belong together.
“Soph…” I moan against her swollen lips. She’s rubbing her hot body against mine, my dick hard and threatening to burst out of my jeans. But this can’t wait. Not anymore.
She smiles. “Hmm?”
“Will you marry me?”
CHAPTER FORTY-SEVEN
SOPHIE
My heart launchesinto my throat, choking me as I try to suck in air.
Oxygen. I need oxygen.
As I try to breathe, my eyes flutter, wondering if I heard Mason right. We were making out, about to tear each other’s clothes off, and then he dropped a bomb.
Will you marry me?
I finally clear my throat and look up at him. He’s staring at me, waiting for a response as if he didn’t drop a bombshell of a question.
“What did you say?” I whisper, the beating in my chest echoing loudly in my ears.
Mason shifts off me and kneels on the bed, then grabs my hand and helps me upright. Face to face, he looks at me with a beaming smile and sparkling eyes. He takes both my hands in his and gently holds them. “I had planned on waiting until our final day here, but it feels like the perfect time to ask you right now. So without letting this moment go by…” Mason slides off the bed, reaches into one of his bags, then returns with a black velvet box.
I gasp, my throat too dry to form words. He smirks, grabs my hand, and helps me stand, then he drops to one knee in front of me. “Oh my God,” I whisper, my free hand trembling as it covers my mouth.
“My sweet Sophie…” He squeezes my left hand, then presses a soft kiss to my knuckles. “I wouldn’t be the man I am today without you, and I want to be the very best man for you, always. I love you more than words can express, and if you’d allow me to, I promise to spend the rest of my life showing you how much you mean to me. Would you do me the honor of becoming my wife and marrying me?”
Tears fall down my cheeks before I have time to catch them. I can’t believe this is happening. The man I love more than anything is asking me to marry him, and I’m speechless.
Finally, I find my voice as I frantically nod. “Yes! Yes, of course!”
“Yes?” he repeats with a wide grin.
“Yes!” I fall into him, wrapping my arms around his neck and holding tight. My entire body shakes as tears take over my vision, and Mason stands with me in his grip.
Once we’re both on our feet, he pulls back slightly and brushes his thumbs under my eyes. “You really said yes?”
Chuckling through my emotions, I nod again. “I did!” When I finally get them in check, I clear my throat and wipe my face. “I’m just so shocked.”
“I can tell,” he says, smirking. “Do you want to see the ring?”
“Oh my God, I forgot to look!” I laugh. “Yes, show me!”
Mason grabs the box that fell to the floor, then opens and reveals the most stunning diamond I’ve ever seen.
“Wow, it’s gorgeous.” My jaw drops as he slides it onto my finger. A perfect fit. “I can’t believe you picked this out.”
He shrugs. “Well, Maddie helped.”
“Maddie knows?”
“Actually, no. I didn’t tell anyone except Liam. However, Maddie has not-so-subtly been sending me pictures of engagement rings for the past three months,” he explains, and I laugh. That little shit.
