The next morning, I was kicking myself in the ass for the way I’d acted last night. I needed to see February. There was no way I could wait until the next time she snuck out. So I took a calculated risk and walked in through the front door of Sierra Wellness Center.

“Hi. I’m here to visit my sister. I think I might be a little early for visiting hours.”

“Actually, I think you’re a little late,” said the woman at the desk. “Yesterday was visitors’ day.”

“Yesterday?” I did my best to look shocked. “You’re kidding me?”

The woman shook her head. “Visitors’ days are always on Sundays. I’m sorry.”

“Shoot.” I rubbed the back of my neck. “I drove all night to get here in time. Took metwelve hours.”

“Oh my gosh. That’s a long way.”

“Yeah. My sister’s always been there for me. I’m a single dad withfour kids, and she’s helped me out a lot, so I wanted to be here for her.”

The woman covered her heartwith her hand. “That’s so sweet.”

“Is there any way I could just maybe…say hello? So she knows I was here at least?”

“It’s against policy, but let me check with her counselor.”

“Thanks. I really appreciate it.”

Fifteen minutes later, I walked into a small visitors’ room. February was already inside. Her eyes widened when she saw me. “Oh my God. You’re my surprise visitor who drove twelve hours?”

I stalked over to her. “Sorry about that. I couldn’t wait to see you, and that’s the best I could come up with.”

“Is everything okay?”

I pulled back her chair, lifted her out of it, and wrapped February in my arms. “It will be in a minute, and for the record, I’m stone-cold sober.”

CHAPTER 8

February

It felt like time stood still as Brock placed his ginormous hands around my face and began to devour my lips. The entire room faded away, and I couldn’t have cared less if anyone walked in. I’d waited too long for this moment.

Brock tasted so damn good as our breaths collided. I couldn’t get enough. My body bent back as he leaned over me, pressing his hard chest against my breasts. How long had I been missing out on this experience? Brock was one hell of a kisser, intense yet tender. Just likehim, honestly.

My hands found their way to his thick, brown hair, tugging and raking. If only we weren’t in this room, but rather alone in my bedroom, maybe just maybe Brock would lose his inhibitions and give me what my body had been longing for since shortly after I met him.

He groaned over my mouth. “These lips are going to be the death of me.”

“It’s about damn time youkissed me, you big dummy.”

Brock smiled over my mouth.

“Oh my goodness. February, why are you kissing your brother?” a voice interrupted, prompting me to jump back.

I turned to find the woman who worked the front desk standing there.Busted.I went to open my mouth, but Brock gave me a look. “Sorry. I should clarify that I’m actually herstepbrother, not her blood brother.”

It hit me now why they’d given Brock access. He’d said he was family. They were better about allowing family visitors. They probably thought it was some kind of emergency, when the only apparent emergency was in Brock’s pants.

“Sorry…” I said to her. “Mystepbrotherand I have really missed each other.”

Brock shrugged.

The woman said nothing before walking away, looking mortified. After she left, Brock and I broke into laughter.
