Dorian’s smirk turns wicked. “I look forward to seeing them being the only thing on you.”
Annnddd that blush covers my whole body as I go into my home, closing the door. My back leans against the door as I wave a hand in my face.
“Oh, mother nature, what have I gotten myself into?”
By the time I go back into the shop, Igor is engaged in conversation with Dorian. He is leaning against the counter with his back to me.
“...so that’s why she always orders vases practically every day.”
“Igor!”
Dorian turns to look at me from the side as I make my way around the counter. I stop at his side as I look at Igor, whose leaves are rustling in silent laughter.
“Ready to go?” Dorian takes my hand in his, kissing it. “Would you mind if we take my car?”
Brain stops working. He has asked something. Focus
“Hey! Stop giving each other the sex eyes! We have business to attend to!” Igor has moved near the door. “Tally forth adventurers!”
“We must tally forth, so says our great leader.” Dorian winks at me, pulling my hand to rest on his arm.
“That’s right! I'm the leader of this quest!” Igor crows as her leaves shake in excitement. Maybe I should take her out more often. If she agrees to behave.
Dorian’s car is not what I would have expected a vampire to drive. it's just a regular grey sedan. I had been imagining one of those super fancy luxury cars. He must see something on my face as he holds open the door for me. We’ve buckled Igor in the backseat.
“My car is sensible and comfortable. I usually have to travel around town. I’d rather be comfortable over having to climb out of a fancy car. Plus, I can easily put the city magnet on this and get my gas reimbursed.”
The guy just keeps getting better and better. I’ll have to make sure I hold up to his expectations. I can only hope I do.
“Ready?” Dorian is in the driver's seat, having already turned on the car. Shaking my head to clear my thoughts, I nod.
“So, who came up with the theme of tropical paradise?”
He is a smooth driver, just like everything else smooth about him. “The mayor had the defining vote, but I brought up the theme idea. He’d been talking about wanting to hire more in-town businesses versus what we’ve done the past few years by hiring businesses from Scarborough. This is the first event the city is using only in-town businesses. Plus, the florist before you was subpar.”
We turn a corner. “The mayor actually told the businesses yesterday that we wouldn’t be renewing our contracts with them from last year.” He offers me a grin. “But I have to say, your shop was by far, my favorite to visit.”
“You’re just saying that because we made out.”
Dorian just shakes his head, his lips pressed together as his shoulders shake slightly. “That could be one of the reasons.”
“Are we there yet?” Igor spouts off from the backseat.
“Actually, we’re almost there.” He looks in the rearview mirror. “The security company we hired will also be there. I figured if they are there, it cuts down on one of many meetings about organizing the dance. There might be areas they may not want filled with decorations or flowers.” He shrugs nonchalantly.
We pull behind the City Hall building in a parking lot designated for employees. The City Hall architecture is beautiful. It gives off the feeling of ancient Greece with pillars everywhere and stunning white marble.
As we get out of the car, I grab Igor and follow Dorian inside. We walk along the hallway, Dorian motions to a large entry way at the end of the hallway that’s closer to the front entrance.
“This will be the main area for the residents of Silver Springs.” He points to a door that we pass on the left. “This will be for just humans unaware of their neighbors. It’s smaller, but will essentially be set up the same, minus the magical tree in the middle of the room.”
“It’s so fancy here. I can’t even smell any flies!” Igor’s voice is chipper as we stop in front of the larger entryway.
Dorian coughs into his hand as he hides his laughter. “Well, I would hope all the cleaning that we do would make sure there weren’t any.” He pushes the doors inward, taking my free hand to lead me inside. That tingling feel of lust slides through me. His eyes dilate slightly as he gazes down at me briefly. Looks like I’m not the only one affected.
The large room is spelled, like my house is, to accommodate however big of a crowd is there. it's fairly newly casted, I can barely see the remnants of the spell lingering in the corners. The walls are a bright white with a wall of windows that looks out onto the impressive gardens on the side of the building.
“There will be a bar in the far right corner. We’ll have servers moving around the edges of the room with food for everyone, on top of the buffet style tables that will go around the tree. The dance floor will take up most of the room.”
