“Why are you such a butthead?” She walked into the room with me right behind, closing the door.
The room had a single king size bed. I had to hand it to Gary, at least he didn’t try to act like we weren’t sleeping with his stepdaughter. I placed the bags on the desk near the window. Cody opened up the food container that her mother had given us as we’d left the house.
He handed Becca a foil wrapped bagel sandwich with an apple juice box. She tore into it without a second thought. We both watched, satisfied that she was eating before Cody handed me my own food.
We sat on the bed, quietly finishing the food that had been prepared with love from Ginny. I had to admit, even if it was a few hours, the container and foil kept it fresh and it was good. Not even soggy. I’d have to ask her what she did to make that happen.
“Alright.” Cody threw his trash away after he finished. “What do you need us to do during the meeting, Jasper?” He got onto the middle of the bed, sitting cross legged.
“Don’t say anything unless absolutely necessary. Gary gave that warning for a reason. We don’t promise anything until we speak with Seth.” I glanced at my phone. I’d sent a text off to him a few minutes ago. They wouldn’t be in Texas for several more hours.
“Works for me.” He stretched, smirking at both of us. “You both are pervs. Watching my shirt go up.” Cody fanned his face with his hand, pitching his voice high. “You’re just embarrassing little old me!”
I threw my head back in a laugh as Becca giggled. Sometimes the things that came out of this guy’s mouth were baffling.
“If you promise to behave today, I’ll let you do that thing you like.” I took a sip from my drink watching as Cody’s eyes instantly darkened as Becca looked between us in confusion.
“The thing?” Her nose scrunched as she tried to work out what I was talking about.
Cody tilted his head to the side as he crossed his arms. “I promise to behave and you better not back out of this!”
“What thing?!” Becca snapped at us, now growling that sent a pulse of pleasure through me.
“You’ll just have to wait until after the meeting to see, won’t you?” I leaned away as she pushed my arm. “Patience is a virtue.”
“You did not just say that.” Her lips moved in a pout that she didn’t know happened when she got annoyed.
“Don’t worry about it.” Cody leaned forward, balancing on his knees, and kissed her.
He took charge, his hand holding the back of her head. I could see the movements of their tongues and it made me shift as my pants became uncomfortable. A knock on the door had all of us letting out a groan.
“Come on, kids. I’ve given you enough time to eat breakfast. The meeting is going to be starting here in just a few minutes.“ Gary’s muffled voice reached us. “Let’s go.”
“Why am I always getting cock blocked with you guys?” Becca gave a loud huff of annoyance as she stood. “Let’s get this over with.”
I shared a look with Cody. Our mate was adorable.
“Remember your promise.” I grabbed my phone and sent a text off to Seth. “I told the others that we’ll call after the meeting.”
Gary had changed clothes. He was wearing more formal slacks and a button down shirt. He’d even slicked back his hair. Becca stopped behind me.
“Should we have brought more formal clothes?” She kept her hand on the door.
“No. What you’re wearing is fine. I’m just a little old school when it comes to these things.” He pushed his glasses up his nose. “I was just told that one of the Fae has arrived to speak with us.” He rubbed his left shoulder with his right hand. “Becca, please, be careful. Your mother will do unspeakable things, and not the good kind, to me if you get hurt.”
Cody draped his arms over me and Becca. “Let’s get this over with! We have stuff to do after!”
Gary didn’t look impressed but he led us to the elevator. “From what I’ve been told, our visitor is a Fae who was at the bombing when it occurred.” He pressed the ground floor button. “Lario wants to meet you, Jasper, before we go in.”
“Is that wise?” I didn’t care either way, but I would avoid insulting these people if I could.
“It will be fine. Lario is one that I trust unequivocally.” Gary ran his hands down his shirt. “I’ve never met a Fae before, I’m not sure what to expect.”
None of us had, but we knew the stories. Legends had truth.
“The Fae are ancient. Humans are mere babies compared to them. So are shifters. It was a dark Fae that created us. We were created to protect his court with his magic. We’re supposedly immune to their powers of persuasion.” I counted the points with my fingers. “You can thank them, but they will take it as an admission that they are owed a favor in the future. It’s better to not risk it.”
“So that means keep our mouth zipped.” Becca brought her fingers to her lips. “Got it.” She offered a big smile to all of us. “This is going to go fine. We’re going to figure out how to work together, make a plan, get the guys back, and kick the Venandi’s butts.”
