At least the scents part of the equation was a good thing. Considering the aromas of my guys soothed me, I couldn't complain about them being more pronounced.

"Hey Simon, what do you have for us?" Noah asked as he put the call on speakerphone but turned the volume down.

"Jonathan met up with the task force when he got to Chicago," Simon began. "Looks like they've been watching Mike for a while, trying to get enough evidence to take down his organization. Seems he's not as discreet or quiet as his father was. Bridget?—"

"Thank you, Simon," I said quietly, knowing he'd hear me despite my volume.

"Bridget, I know your family are pieces of shit, but Jonathan did find out from the task force that your father passed away about six months ago. It explains why your brother was the one calling and that he found you. He decided to put more resources into finding you than your father had." Simon sighed heavily. "But I swear to you, we're going to bring him down and make him pay for everything. We'll rescue all the omegas he has and make sure they get any assistance they need."

Fresh tears formed in my eyes at the conviction in Simon's voice. "Thank you, Simon. Mike isn't my brother. None of them were ever my family. You've been the only one since I was a little girl that ever cared about me. So thank you, brother." The tears began to fall, and Lucas held me tighter in his arms.

Simon cleared his throat, and I knew emotions were overwhelming him, too. "As soon as I know more, I'll get back in touch."

"Thanks, Simon," Noah responded, and the call ended. He glanced at me, so much pain reflected in his bright blue eyes. "What can I do, Bridget?"

I cocked my head to the side. "What do you mean? There's really nothing we can do right now other than just be patient and wait to hear back from Jonathan and the people he’s working with."

He shook his head and ran his fingers through his already messy hair. "I feel like there's more I should be doing."

I swallowed and took a moment before responding. "We just have to trust our family and the people they trust to do the right thing."

Lucas kissed the top of my head as his fingers danced up and down my arms. "That's what I told him and James. But I know we're all on edge. We want to slay all your dragons, darlin'. We don't want that fear ever to reach those beautiful eyes of yours. Your panic attack scared us, and we just want to take care of you."

His words made the butterflies in my stomach flutter to life. I leaned back and cupped his cheeks. "I love you. All three of you. You're the best mates a girl could ever ask for."

I didn't want to reference my panic attack. It was done. In the past. It would probably happen again somewhere along the way, and I would be better prepared by telling them exactly what to do when it happened.

But now wasn't the time for that.

"Love you too, baby girl." Noah kissed the sensitive area between my neck and shoulder, making goosebumps erupt on my arms. That strange feeling I had in the pit of my stomach from yesterday returned, but just like then, it disappeared right away.

"Why don't you go take a shower while I get breakfast and coffee ready." Lucas tucked a strand of hair behind my ear.

"Perfect plan."

He kissed the tip of my nose and rolled out of bed. Full on twisted around and rolled off to land on his feet.

I shook my head in disbelief. "Did you really just do that?"

Lucas shrugged and just grinned. "Man of many talents, what can I say?"

Still shaking my head, I crawled out of bed—not rolling like certain betas—and rose to my feet. I padded to the bathroom, feeling their eyes on me the whole way.

A few hours later, I was cuddled up next to Lucas while James worked out in the barn and Noah worked on things in his office. It was like the calm before the storm. There was a movie I'd seen a thousand times on the TV. Lucas hated it but had put it on because he knew how much I loved the mid-90s futuristic sci-fi movie.

What wasn't there to love? It had Bruce Willis, a crazy singing blue alien, plus explosionsandwas hilarious as fuck.

Yep. Nothing beat it.

Just as they were getting the stones to open, I heard Noah's phone echo out from his office.

I sat up, immediately on alert. Lucas placed a hand on my back, and we waited as Noah strode into the living room.

I looked around for my phone but couldn't spot it. I'd either left it in the kitchen or upstairs, which wasn't important right now. I elbowed Lucas as Noah sat down on the other side of him. "Call James so he can hear what they say too."

The backdoor banged open, and James removed his hat quickly and came toward me. "Don't worry, I'm already back." He kissed my forehead and pulled me into his arms.

"Simon," Noah said, answering the phone. "We're all here. What's going on?"
