"Jonathan has confirmed Mike has the Rossi's under armed lockdown in their townhouse. From what he can tell, Mike isn't there, and there are about a dozen or so guards swarming around."

"What about Mike? Where is that bastard hiding?" James snarled and tightened his arms around me.

"There's an abandoned warehouse along the edge of town," Simon replied.

"Of course, because he's so stereotypical, it has to be an abandoned warehouse." I rolled my eyes. At least I could find some humor in this whole situation.

"Even worse, get this. It's got an underground tunnel that they use to smuggle the girls in and out of the port." Simon growled. Like me, he was utterly furious with the whole situation. "Jon is working with the guys in the task force to try and create a trap, but Mike has gone dark over the past twelve hours. No one has been able to spot him, nor has any trace of him been found."

My stomach sank. Why did he go dark? Unless he knew the task force was onto him?

Something wasn’t right about this whole situation.

My brother was a slimy jackass who’d learned well from my father.

“How did that happen?” Noah seethed. “They had eyes on him, and they just lost him?”

I placed a hand on his bicep, seeking to calm him. “It’s not Simon or the others’ fault. Snakes are notoriously good at hiding and escaping.”

A plan was already forming in my head, but I knew the guys weren’t going to approve, but if we let Mike go for too long, he’d be next to impossible to find.

“What next?” James asked. He rose and paced along the length of the room. I’d come to notice it was what he always did when he was upset or stressed.

“We wait,” Simon sighed. “As Bridget said, snakes are good at hiding. All we can do is try and flush him out and be there to take care of him when he does.”

Even more reason why my plan was going to be the best idea.

Now, I just needed to figure out exactly how to pull it off.

CHAPTER50

Bridget

The guys had calmed down marginally since the call with Simon had ended.

They were still on edge, but James had stopped pacing, and Noah wasn’t clenching his jaw quite as hard. I was taking that as a win.

I told them I was still exhausted and went upstairs to take a nap.

I chewed on my bottom lip, the flesh giving way easily, and the coppery tang of blood filled my mouth. I walked into the bedroom and shut the door behind me. Then, for good measure, I went into the bathroom, shut and locked the door, and even turned on the water in the sink.

Because if I was somehow able to pull this off, the guys would freak out. I would have to find some way to convince them, or Alena or Simon, to get me off the property.

There was no way I'd let my brother slip away and disappear when I could do something about it.

My hands shook as I sank onto the toilet and pressed the call button next to my brother's number. He hadn't even bothered to block the number. It was a burner phone, I'm sure, but it still set my teeth on edge that he was so arrogant he didn't even need to do something as small as blocking his number from me.

"Little sister, how good of you to call."

Bile crept up my throat, and I barely managed to keep the contents of my stomach down.

"Where are you?" I snapped, getting straight to the point.

Mike burst into laughter, the sound like nails on a chalkboard. "Do you really think I'll fall for that?"

"You've done stupider shit over the course of your pathetic life."

"Oh dear sister, you wound me." He gasped, the sound exaggerated and fake as fuck. "Now, why don't you tell me why you're calling? Is it to offer yourself to me?"
