"The rest of the SWAT team is searching the basements now." Noah nodded as Jonathan slapped a pair of cuffs onto Mike's wrists.

"Baby girl," Noah breathed as he knelt before me. One large, callused hand cupped my cheek. "What the hell were you thinking?"

Tears burned in the backs of my eyes and fell down my face unbidden as raw anguish swept through me. Was this the part where he rejected me and looked the other way? Where his anger over me leaving consumed him, and he ripped my heart out?

My lips parted, but no sound escaped. I moistened them and tried again, but I still couldn't speak.

Noah's brow furrowed. "Bridget, baby, breathe for me."

I hadn't realized I'd not been able to breathe as I was finally able to take a deep shuddering inhale. "I'm s-s-sorry," I managed to stutter out.

Two other figures raced toward us, and James and Lucas joined Noah, kneeling before me. Lucas pulled me into his arms immediately and pressed me to his chest as he rocked back and forth. "Don't you dare ever scare me like that again, Bridget Aldridge. I swear to God, if you do, I'll help Noah and James spank you until you can't sit for a week."

Despite the sorrow racing through me, a smile spread over my lips.

James placed a hand on my back and leaned down to kiss my temple. I winced, and James drew back with a growl. "I'm going to torture him within an inch of death and then let him heal just so I can do it all over again." His thumb delicately swept over what I'm sure was a wicked bruise forming.

"You aren't going to reject me for leaving you?" I asked, my words barely audible over the commotion starting in the space around us.

Three distinct growls echoed in my ears, and I blinked, looking between them. "I take that as a no?"

"Not just no, but fuck no," James snarled. "We're pissed you didn't say anything to us, but we'd never reject you for it."

Noah nodded, his face pale and expression solemn. "We're going to have a long discussion about this when we get home, but for now, I want to have those wrists bandaged up. You look like you've lost a fair amount of blood."

Dark spots danced across my field of vision as I looked down at the damage the rough ropes had done to my flesh. Blood dripped down onto Lucas' shirt, and I tried to pull my arms away with a gasp. "Shit, I'm getting you all dirty."

Lucas shook his head and secured me tighter against him. "I don't give a flying fuck about that. But we do need to get you checked out, so up you go with James."

“What about the Rossi’s?” I asked, my fingers curling into his shirt. I needed to know they were okay.

James took me from Lucas' arms and easily rose to his feet. “Jonathan sent someone over to their house. Your brother had guards at their place, but the cops were able to get everyone to safety. Claudia and the others are all fine, all of her grandchildren accounted for. Chicago PD is going to get them into a safe house for now just to be sure no one will go after them again.”

Vertigo made the room spin around me, and I fought the bile threatening to rise into my throat, despite the relief at hearing the Rossi’s were safe and secure. "Thank you. I think getting it looked at is a good idea," I slurred, thankful I was in James' arms, otherwise I would have fallen. "He drugged me, too."

"I've got you, baby," James murmured as the darkness finally pulled me under.

CHAPTER55

James

Bridget's eyes fluttered shut, and her head lolled against my chest as I walked faster out of the building. My heart raced, threatening to leap from my chest as I practically ran to the waiting ambulance.

Emotions swept through me like a runaway train, taking any semblance of control I had left. I wanted to make Aldridge bleed. Make him pay for everything he's done to omegas and to Bridget.

Lucas and Noah followed closely behind me as I strode with purpose to a waiting EMT. The male saw us coming and lifted the stretcher up so I could place Bridget on it.

"Is this the omega?"

"Theomega? Any specific one you're referring to?" Lucas put one hand on his hip as he leveled the full force of his sass at the EMT, who was an alpha. "She'souromega, and if you?—"

"Lucas," Noah snapped and placed his hand on his shoulder.

The EMT held his hands up. "I meant the one that started all this and helped us rescue the dozens of omegas trapped in the basement."

"Dozens?" I asked incredulously.

"Yeah, we have more help on the way. Trauma counselors, and more betas and omegas so the rescued omegas aren't around so many alphas." The EMT's blue eyes sparkled. Something about this man told me he was one of the good ones.
