I held out a hand for him. "James Monroe. This is our omega, Bridget. Yes, she was the one that set this whole thing into motion. The one with the mouth is Lucas and the tall one is Noah."
"Marcus." He reached out and shook my hand. "Nice to meet you. Now, let's get Ms. Bridget looked at, and those wrists bandaged."
As Marcus worked, he told us everything he was doing along the way to ease us. He was clearly a man who had been around possessive alpha's and their omegas.
I was immensely thankful for this fact as it helped curb my instincts. That, and the fact that Bridget leaned against me throughout the treatment.
She'd woken up and told Marcus about what happened and that they'd exposed her to an inhalant drug.
He took a blood sample and instructed her to rest for the next forty-eight to seventy-two hours just to be on the safe side.
"You're one lucky and brave little omega." Marcus smiled down at our mate as he wrapped the last of the bandage around Bridget's wrist. "Not many people would be willing to sacrifice like you did, and now a lot of omega's are safer because of it."
A delicate flush spread over Bridget's cheeks under the praise before she adamantly shook her head. “I didn’t do anything special.”
A smile spread over my lips. “Of course you did, Bridget. You saved so many people today. Even if you should have told us where you were going first.”
“Looks like we’re all good to go here,” Marcus said as he laid Bridget’s hands back on her lap. “Change the bandages in 48 hours, and don’t get them wet for a few more days. I don’t think there’s any damage from the inhalant they gave you, but if you notice anything strange, go to the ER immediately.”
Bridget nodded and slumped back against me. Her eyes fluttered shut as she exhaled. “James?” She asked in a small voice, sounding utterly and completely exhausted.
“Yes, little one?” I kissed the top of her head as Marcus walked away to give us some space.
“Can we go home please?”
Noah and Lucas each kissed her cheek. “We’ll get you home as soon as possible, baby girl.” Noah swept her hair away from her face. “We just need to make sure everything is wrapped up here. Jonathan may need to speak to you.”
“Okay.”
I hated how discouraged and despondent she sounded in the simple one-word reply.
“Why don’t we get a nice hotel room tonight?” I glanced up at Noah, who nodded in agreement. “Jonathan can come to the room later after you’ve had a chance to rest.”
A yawn stretched her lips before she nodded. "Sounds good."
"Let me go talk to Elias." I pressed my lips to her forehead. "I'll be back in just a few minutes, alright?"
Bridget nodded, and Noah quickly swept in to take my place as I rose to my feet. I passed Marcus along the way, and I held my hand out for him, shaking it once again. "Thanks again. We couldn't have asked for anyone better to see to our omega's wounds. If you're ever looking for some peace and quiet away from the city, my pack and I own Second Chance Ranch in Montana. Look us up, and we'll host you there, all expenses paid."
Marcus' brows furrowed as he pumped my hand up and down. "You don't have to do that, man, but thank you." He let out a deep breath before running his fingers through his hair. "I may take you up on that. I've been finding the city too harsh lately."
"I get ya. Lucas, the eccentric one, used to be a city dweller and felt the same way. He moved to Montana almost ten years ago and hasn't ever looked back. Plenty of people in our area could use the help of someone with your training." I clasped him on the shoulder, then pulled out one of the fancy business cards Noah had made forever ago and handed it to him. "Offer's on the table indefinitely. Just shoot me a text or give me a call."
"Thanks, man." Marcus tucked my card in his back pocket before someone in the distance called his name. "Nice to meet ya."
"Same," I replied before he ran off, and I searched for Elias and Jonathan.
I found them talking animatedly next to an unmarked police car. They noticed me right away and turned in my direction. "Hey, how's Bridget?" Elias asked, his face pinched with concern. "Alena is really worried."
"The EMT got her all patched up." I scrubbed my hand down my face. "She's exhausted, so we were gonna look for a hotel in the area, and then, can we leave tomorrow?"
Elias nodded. "That's what we were planning too. Julian took Alena to get a couple of suites at the Plaza. One is already under Noah's name and prepaid." He pulled his cell out of the inside pocket of his jacket. "I just sent you the address. I'm sure the girls will want to talk, so I'll let you know when we're settled."
"We can't thank you enough for everything." I inclined my head, clearing my throat to try and banish the emotions threatening to overtake me.
"Fuck that." Elias squeezed my bicep. "You're family. Family does whatever the other needs. We'll always be there for you, just like you'll always be there for us."
"Thanks," I replied in a hoarse whisper. "To you too, Jonathan. If you ever need a place to stay in Montana, Second Chance is always available to you."
