Fuck, he was right. I could smell it, too. Hell, I could feel it in the air and saw it on her face before she retreated upstairs.
“Probably right,” I mumbled.
“Hey, we’re gonna make some mistakes.” Usually it would be me saying that kind of shit, not James, but I went with it.
“True.”
“I’m not used to being the one saying fluffy words and shit,” James grumbled as he scrubbed a hand over his face. “We have never had an unmated omega here for any length of time. We probably just need to tell Bridget we’re gonna make some mistakes, and she may have to be vocal about when we’re making her uncomfortable.”
I shook my head. “The only way we’re making her uncomfortable right now is getting her turned on.”
James’ mouth snapped shut as he pondered my outburst. “Uh—“ he stammered. “—well, she knows we aren’t gonna act on anything like that right now. We’ll make sure Lucas learns he can’t say that kind of shit.”
I couldn’t resist the smile that twisted my lips upward. “He ain’t gonna be sitting right for a few days.”
“We both get a turn this time.” James grinned as his eyes warmed with lust. “Let’s talk with Bridget tomorrow. Or you can, not me. Show her around and tell her to give us a little grace.”
Yeah, easier said than done when all I wanted to do was to get her back in my arms and kiss the daylights out of her.
* * *
I was sitting up in bed with my laptop, doing some work on our website. The damn thing was the bane of my existence—almost as bad as accounting—shudder at the thought.
James was relaxing on the chaise with his Kindle while we waited for Lucas to get out of the shower.
The bratty beta took his sweet time, knowing what was coming next.
“Lucas, get your tight ass out here. I know you’re done,” I shouted as I closed my laptop.
The bathroom door jerked open, and Lucas stood just inside the room with his hands on his hips and a towel wrapped around his waist. His brows arched, and he let out a dramatic sigh. “I was just teasing. It just slipped out. She was so comfortable with us, and fuck—“ He ran his fingers through his wet hair. “I’m sorry. I’ll watch what I say.”
James rose at the same time I did, and we surrounded Lucas. “You know better, pup.”
I nodded in agreement as I yanked the towel off and tossed it into the bathroom. “You do, Lucas. Now, we’ll make it all better, and you can let go of the guilt.”
Lucas blinked, his eyes wide and burning with lust. Our little beta was so filled with a zest for life and caring for others that when he hurt someone, even accidentally, he couldn’t forgive himself.
So we gave him a form of punishment then soothed away all the guilt.
I threaded my fingers through his hair and dragged him closer until our lips met. James kissed his shoulders as he ran his hands down his sides.
“I really am sorry,” Lucas breathed against my lips.
I kissed him again, our tongues tangling together as I angled his head just right for my possession of his mouth. Nipping his bottom lip, I pulled back with a grin. “We all know you need this to ease your mind.”
Lucas rolled his eyes. “I hate it when you’re right.”
“No, you love it,” James rumbled behind him as he bit down on his neck. “You love it when our alpha takes control so you can just let go and stop thinking and worrying.”
He may have been speaking about Lucas, but it was true for him, too.
We all had our demons. It helped me when I took care of my pack. It enabled them to let go and feel loved. We were in balance. James had a bit of both of us in him, the ultimate switch between us.
The only thing I’d ever change would be adding an omega. The feminine energy would balance us out completely. Make us feel whole and even more like a family.
Now that I’d met Bridget, I couldn’t imagine any other omega with us.
It was going to be torture having her so close to us.
