“You get downstairs to yours, silly-billy,” she replied, still snickering.
“Talk to you soon.” I don’t know why I decided I could get through this conversation without coffee. Now, I desperately needed a hit of the rich liquid that Lucas brewed like a professional barista in the fanciest coffee shop.
“Let me know how it goes.”
With a final goodbye, I hung up the phone and looked around my room. My hand caressed my soft blanket reverently. This was the best place I’d ever lived. I knew I wanted it to be where I lived for the rest of my life.
Now, I just needed to do what I could to ensure this relationship continued on the right path.

A few minutes later, I made my way down to the kitchen and halted in confusion as I didn’t see any signs of Lucas. I checked the pantry and the closest bathroom with no success.
“Lucas?” I called out, looking around the living room and even poking my head inside James’ music room.
Where the heck was he?
I noticed the door to Noah’s office was slightly ajar, and peeked inside.
“When the fuck are you going to tell us what the fuck is going on?”
Well, I didn’t need to be this close to the door to hear Lucas shouting at Noah.
Lucas didn’t shout. At least not in anger. In excitement? Oh absolutely. The beta was the most easily excitable person I’d ever met. His voice always rose with excitement.
But he didn’t hold this much anger in his heart.
“Lucas is right, Noah.” I could peer in a little further to see James resting on the small sofa in the office. “We’re a circle. You can’t keep us out. We know something is going on.”
Noah bit out a curse that had my eyes widening. “Bridget, I know you’re there. You might as well come in.”
He sounded so weary. So broken.
How could this strong alpha be so shattered? It was enough to make my own heart crack and bleed for him.
I pushed the door open the rest of the way and took a few tentative steps inside. “Uh, is everything alright?”
Duh, Bridget. Of course things weren’t alright if they were just arguing like that. After spending several weeks here, I knew they didn’t argue in anger. Teasing? With Lucas around, that was a given. But this was different. There was animosity bleeding from the walls of the room. It gave me goosebumps as I moved further into the room.
“We were just finishing our discussion.” Noah was dismissive as his gaze trailed from Lucas to James.
“Actually, since you’re all here, I’d love a moment to show you something.” Now may not be the best time to show them my designs for the website and booking system, but maybe it would dull the tension a bit? “If that’s okay?” I couldn’t help fidgeting nervously now that the moment was here.
Three pairs of eyes focused on me, the animosity dimming as the attention was drawn away from Noah.
“Can I use your computer?” I bounced from foot to foot and drew my bottom lip between my teeth.
“Sure.” Noah forced a smile onto his face, but it didn’t reach his eyes. Those blue depths remained guarded. Haunted. I wished I could banish that emotion so he never had to experience it ever again.
I moved before I could think further and talk myself out of it. I wrapped my arms around his neck. Stepping between his thighs, I hugged him tightly, burying my face into his shoulder, marking him with my scent.
“Thank you, baby girl.” His voice was soft. Almost reverent as his hand splayed out over my lower back. He had such big, strong hands. I couldn’t wait until I felt them all over my bare skin.
Oh great, now I was aroused, and I’m sure he could smell it.
Stupid Bridget.
Noah inhaled deeply, then groaned as he took in my scent. He quickly spun me around and settled me down onto one of his powerful thighs. One arm wrapped around me from behind as he held me securely against him.
