This felt right. Perfect. I’d never felt this comfortable with a man, alpha, beta, or otherwise. It was a foreign concept, but one that made the wall surrounding my heart start to crack.
“Welcome home, darlin’.”
CHAPTER4
Noah
Strawberries and cream reached my nose with the shift in the wind. A purr immediately started low in my chest as I looked at Bridget in a new light. My cock strained against my jeans, just looking at her.
She was adorable. Hot. Sexy. Mouthwatering with her intoxicating scent and curves that went on for days.
All the things I wanted to do to her—with her—rolled through my head. Kissing her. Gorging myself on her luscious body. Her slick would taste just as sweet as she smelled. Her breasts would overflow in my large palms, and they’d be intoxicating as they bounced while I thrust myself in and out of her.
Cool down there, Noah.I need to get a grip on my hormones. I wasn’t some teenager looking for his first omega fuck. This woman was remarkable. She may not even want us. I had to tread carefully. I would never in a million years wish to frighten her.
Lucas quickly took her inside for a house tour, leaving me with James and Simon. I shifted to hide the uncomfortable situation happening in my jeans. I watched her until she was inside the house. I’d never reacted this strongly to an omega before.
Something about the woman called to me. She drew out the primal nature of my inner alpha, and I barely resisted the urge to rise and chase after her.
“You brought us a fragile omega, Simon. You’ve trusted us with her,” James rumbled softly, and I knew he was already feeling what I felt. Our protective instincts were on high alert. Her shy demeanor and how she curled in on herself spoke volumes of what she’d been through. “We’ll protect her.”
“She’s shy. It’ll take some work to get her to come out of her shell. Her family is vile, still seeking revenge after she escaped their clutches. She ruined their plans for an advantageous marriage.” Simon sighed and ran his hand through his hair. “Which was mostly my fault, but that’s not how they see it.”
“That’s who she’s hiding from? Her family?” I leaned against the wall as the rage stirred to life within me. What kind of assholes would hurt an innocent person just because they didn’t want to marry?
Society people. That’s who. Fuck, I hated those assholes with a fiery passion.
“Yep. Three days ago, her brother entered the restaurant she’d been working in. We’re not sure if he saw her or not, but it’s better to be safe for both her and the family who was protecting her.” Simon shrugged. “She was happy there, I think. So, just go easy on her as she adjusts. I’ll pay for her new wardrobe and her salary.”
I stiffened. “No, you won’t.” I glared at my friend, pride burning in my chest. I would not take any of their money. This was about doing the right thing and helping a pack that had been there for us repeatedly. “We’re hiring her for a position we desperately need filled. We don’t need your charity, man.”
Simon sighed but nodded. “Okay. If you’re sure.”
Of course, I was sure, even though we were in the hole, we’d figure it out. We always did.
“How long are you and Alena staying with us?” James interrupted.
“We’re going to head back tonight. Otherwise, Xavier will have a hissy fit.” Simon snorted as he shook his head. “Although it might be fun to see his reaction. Maybe we should stay an extra day. That would really piss him off.”
I rolled my eyes at his antics. Although, I knew he’d never do anything to upset or trigger Xavier. He’d return with their mate at precisely the time he told them. “He’s become even more overprotective hasn’t he?”
“You have no idea. Especially after Alena had been kidnapped. She finally had to tell him to back off one day when he was standing over her at work. I can’t imagine the day when we get her pregnant. He’ll want to wrap her in bubble wrap and insist she never leaves the couch or bed.” Simon’s lips twitched in amusement.
James straightened, immediately changing the subject since the ‘p’ word came up. The alpha-like beta wanted nothing to do with talk of kids or pregnancy. “Want to take a ride before you have to leave? Lucas is probably going to start cooking soon.”
I rubbed the back of my neck and looked out over the horizon. I needed to start work on the numbers again. I couldn’t keep putting them off.
It was going to be a long night.
I hated working on the books, but I didn’t want James or Lucas to know how bad things truly were.
“You two enjoy your ride.” I tipped my hat and went back inside. I froze as Bridget's scent washed over me. It was everywhere in the house. It was going to be pure, sweet torture being so close to her and not being able to taste her.
Fuck. It was delicious. She was bound to taste even sweeter. I could practically taste her on my tongue already. I took my hat off and ran my hand through my hair, noticing how my fingers shook as I raked them through the strands.
How was I going to live here and not touch her?
I’d have to go slow. Fuck. I’d have to tell the other two of my intentions as well. Although knowing them, they were probably already aware of how Bridget would fit in with our pack.
