My mouth fell open as I stared at Alena with confusion etched into my features. The silence hung in the room for several seconds before Simon and Elias murmured their apologies.
"Good." Bridget clapped her hands. "Now we've had an excellent meal, I think it may be time for Alena to rest in her cabin." And away from us so we can have some privacy. The unsaid words were ones that everyone implied.
"That sounds like an excellent idea, but I may need help getting there." Alena giggled. "I really can't help myself when it comes to Lucas' food. It's just too good."
Lucas beamed, soaking up the praise for his cooking. I loved his smile. He may put off a tough exterior, but inside, he was always dying for affection and praise. It was why he acted out. He loved the release of guilt from being spanked. It was something Noah, and I had always been willing to provide him.
After a few minutes of casual conversation, everyone rose and went their separate ways.
"Sure you don't want any help with cleaning up?" Alena asked just before exiting the house. Julian was holding her in his arms, looking pleased at being the one to do so. "The guys can clean everything from top to bottom. It's the least we can do."
"Volunteering us, Princess?" Xavier pressed a kiss to her forehead. "Are you our keeper as well as our omega now?"
A blush bloomed over her cheeks. "Sorry."
Xavier's brow furrowed, looking wounded at Alena's dejected tone in the simple word. "I was just teasing you. You're our everything, Princess. If you wanted us to walk across an obstacle course of hot coals, razors, and salt, we'd happily do it."
"I'm not sure about happily, but we'd do it," Julian, ever the voice of reason, added.
"I'd never make you guys do that!" She exclaimed.
"Didn't say you would," Xavier grunted. "Let's finish this discussion in our cabin. I'll show you what else we'd gladly do for all eternity." He wiggled his eyebrows suggestively.
"Out, out, out," Bridget shooed them out the door.
They left, their laughter echoing into the house until Bridget shut the door and leaned back against it. "Ah, peace."
CHAPTER38
Lucas
Bridget relaxed back against me with a content sigh. Noah and James volunteered to clean up the kitchen, so we let them as we settled on the couch with a glass of wine. Some random show was on the TV in the background, the noise adding to the ambiance around us.
"Dinner was so good, Lucas." A smile spread over her lips. "I'm seriously a lucky girl."
Gods, what had we done to deserve her? She was the sweetest omega ever.
"We’re the lucky ones." I kissed the top of her head as my arms tightened around her.
"Agree to disagree on that one."
"Are you arguing with Lucas, baby girl?" James growled from the entryway to the kitchen.
"Nope," Bridget replied with a saucy grin. "No arguing here!"
My brows rose. "Are you trying to get your bottom spanked?" I whispered into her ear.
Red spread over her cheeks as she shook her head. Those gray-blue eyes darkened as she licked her lips.
"Sounded more like she was putting herself down," I smirked. I wasn't going to get my own ass spanked for this one. Some may view it as throwing her under the bus. I simply thought of it as 'maybe she'd feel better after a spanking.'
"Traitor," Bridget muttered under her breath.
I kissed her forehead, trying not to laugh. "Maybe you need a spanking. Clear the air and let you shed the notion that you aren't worthy of us."
While she didn't exactly say those words, they were implied by her simple statements. I knew what it felt like not to belong. To not feel worthy of love or affection. Not to Bridget's extent, of course, but that trauma was still there.
Noah brushed past James to sit on the couch beside me. He gave me a knowing look as he reached for Bridget and slid her onto his lap.
