“Okay, but am I going to lose the television in my room or not?” I chuckled and reached my hand out, placing it on top of his head, then messing his hair up.

“On that note. I’m going to take off. Your grandparents and Reagan are probably waiting to come in.”

“Nah, Gramps is probably letting Sabith run around,” Ry said as Raven and he followed me out of the kitchen and to the front door.

Once we were outside, Ry and Raven walked with me to my bike in the driveway. As we reached it, Doc, Gretchen, and Reagan came around the corner of the garage with the dog traipsing behind them.

“What were you doing on the side of the garage?” Raven asked, and Doc pointed at the dog.

“Waiting on Sabith to come out of the woods. She must have heard or caught sight of a deer and decided to give a little chase,” he answered Raven, then turned toward me. “You heading home?”

“Yeah. It’s getting late. Thanks for feeding me, Mrs...Gretchen.”

“You’re always welcome here, Reed.”

“Hey, you never told us how you got the name Keg,” Reagan said, and Raven chuckled.

“No, I didn’t. How about I share that later?”

“Okay. I’ll remind you,” she said and turned toward the house with her grandparents.

“If you’re banking on her forgetting, you’d be wrong.”

“I’ll tell her tomorrow,” I answered Raven, then looked down at Ry, who had ignored everyone because he was scoping out my bike. “Ry, tomorrow I thought I could pick you up and we could go to my dad’s place. It’s Sunday, and I usually hang out with him for a few hours. Afterward, we could swing by my house and have some dinner, then I’ll bring you back.”

“He’s my grandad, right?”

“Yep.”

“He was the one yesterday that rode up while we were stopped at the gate after...”

“That’s him. Yesterday morning wasn’t the best way for us to meet, but Ry, he and I are both looking forward to getting to know you.”

“Okay then. He’s big like you. Do you think I’ll get as big?”

“I’d say you’ve gotten a good start on it already.” I ruffled his hair. He was closing in on thirteen and was almost as tall as Raven.

“I’m taller than most of the boys in the middle school.”

“It was like that for me at your age.”

“You’re dad, too?”

“I’m sure he was.”

“You and he don’t look much alike.”

“Only our size and a few facial features. I got my hair color and eyes from my mom. But wait until you meet your aunt, my sister, Sami. She has our dad’s hair and eyes, but our mom’s height. You’re probably as tall if not already taller than her.”

“Does she live around here?”

“No, but she’s only a few hours away.”

“Does she know about me?”

“Oh yeah. It won't surprise me if she isn’t already planning a visit.”

“She got kids?”
