I kiss her forehead. “I just want this to be good for you.”
“It is.” She reaches up and traces her index finger along my lips. “By the way, you have a filthy mouth, Sam McKesson.”
I chuckle.
She licks her lips, smiling. “I like your filthy mouth very, very much.”
“Yeah?”
She nods. “I’ve never been with a guy who talks dirty in bed. It really does it for me.”
“I’m glad.”
“It’s kind of wild how you’re able to switch.”
“What do you mean?”
“You’re such a sweetheart in everyday life. But when things get naked, you’re a naughty boy.”
I laugh.
She laughs too. “I like how bossy you are, too. New kink unlocked. I like a nice guy in the streets and a bossy dom in the sheets.”
I laugh even harder. She cups my cheek in her hand and leans up to kiss me. When we break apart, her gaze falls to the tattoo on my chest. Softly, she runs her fingertips along the scribbled letters on my left pec.
“Liam and Layla are your nephew and niece, right?”
“Yeah.”
“How old are they now?”
“They just turned seven.”
A wistful smile pulls at her lips as she looks at my tattoo. “This is such a cool idea, having them write their name on your chest and then tattooing over it.”
“Thanks. My sister hated the idea when I told her, but once she saw it, she thought it was sweet.”
Dakota looks up at me. “It is.” She runs her fingers through my hair. I close my eyes and let out a happy sigh. She cuddles back into my chest.
“You don’t feel weird about what we just did, do you?” she asks after a quiet moment.
“Not at all. Do you?”
She shakes her head. “I mean, part of me was nervous that it would be awkward. But being with you is so comfortable.”
My chest warms. “I’m glad you feel comfortable with me.”
She shifts against me, and I look down at her.
“I probably feel that way because we’re such good friends,” she says, leaning up to look at me. Her eyes are bright. She looks so happy and relaxed.
“Good friends who just finished doing some very unfriendly things to each other.”
She giggles at my teasing and leans up to kiss me. “Yeah, but I liked it. A lot,” she says.
“I did too.”
That warmth inside of me burrows deeper. I’m relieved things aren’t weird between us after we crossed the line from just friends to where we are now.
