Sorin shrugged as he buckled the saddle. ‘I didn’t fuck her.’

Viktor ran a hand through his hair in exasperation. ‘I know what you did. I was there, Brother, and we had decided to go slowly.’

‘What’s the problem? I didn’t go behind your back. What’s bothering you is that I did something with her first.’ Sorin turned to face him. ‘Besides, you could have joined in if you’d wanted. She was perfectly willing.’

‘Of course she was willing!’ Viktor exploded. ‘But she never even felt a woman’s pleasure until last night. Did you realise? No, you were too busy congratulating yourself for getting past her defences!’

‘I was not –’ Sorin stopped and his expression hardened. ‘You’re right. I didn’t think about it being her first time for everything, not just … you know. Do you think she’s all right?’

Viktor growled. ‘You’d better hope she is.’ He ran a hand through his hair again. ‘There’s something about her. We both feel it. We may not understand it, but she’s important. Go and get her. We’re leaving before we run into any other units. There will be others in the area so it’s only a matter of time, but I’d rather no one knows about her yet so close to the campaign. Besides, we’re due to meet Kane in three days.’

‘What if he doesn’t feel this thing, whatever it is?’ Sorin asked.

‘He will,’ Viktor said simply. He has to.

Sorin left him to find Lana, and Viktor sighed. Watching her with Sorin the night before had left him needing a dunk in a cold pond. He’d already run the perimeter of the town twice, hacked at posts with his sword and everything else he could think of, but he was still hard. He closed his eyes, seeing Sorin’s long finger pushing into her while she writhed on the bed with her legs wide, confusion in her eyes but inevitably succumbing to the pleasure he was giving her. Taking out his cock, Viktor worked himself as he thought about how she’d looked bound tightly to the apothecary table, her body straining at the ropes as he and Sorin had touched her, as the phallus had moved in and out of her. She had been so exposed and her channel so tight he’d only been able to fit one finger inside her. His hands quickened and he spent in the hay with a groan. It wasn’t nearly enough, but it would have to do. For now.

He finished readying his horse. Lana would ride with him today. He’d be fucked if he’d let Sorin have that pert little arse rubbing against him all day again.

He mounted just as Sorin came into view, Lana following him in that green dress his Brother had found that left just enough of her chest on display for them. She also now wore her own black ermine-lined cloak.

Sorin lifted her up to Viktor with a knowing look that he ignored as he settled her in front of him. She sat ramrod straight as if she were trying not to touch him any more than she had to. Her face was as crimson as her beautiful, red hair, and he almost smiled. He’d bet anything she was remembering him watching last night and trying to fathom why she’d liked that so much.

He let her tire herself out, knowing that by the afternoon she’d be leaning into him with fatigue.

Viktor was right.By the time they stopped to make camp in the evening, his arms around her were the only thing keeping Lana on the horse. When they stopped at the ruins in the middle of the forest, she perked up, however.

‘What is this place?’ she asked as she hefted her leg over to dismount.

Sorin helped her down, gliding his hands up her body as he did so, Viktor noted. ‘It’s a ruin of a castle or some such.’

She looked around in wonder.

‘Stay close to the camp though. There’s a portal around here somewhere.’

Her eyes widened. ‘To a dark realm? There was one close to my village before it collapsed, but I never got to see it.’

Viktor chuckled. ‘And you won’t see one now either. The bridge rarely opens when the moon isn’t full and its waning now.’ He slid off his horse and landed on the ground, grabbing his bow from the saddle. ‘I’ll find us some dinner.’

Sorin began his usual task of unloading the horses when Lana stopped him. ‘I can see to them if you like.’

Sorin shrugged. ‘Are you sure you’re strong enough?’

She made a scornful sound that made him smile in spite of himself. ‘I may not have arms like yours, but I’d gamble my back is as strong.’ With that she hefted the saddle bags off Sorin’s horse like a seasoned traveller and stuck her tongue out at them both. This time he allowed himself a chuckle. She looked at him in surprise.

Sorin made a gesture of surrender and took up his own bow and quivers. ‘Very well, I’ll go with Viktor and get us some food. I’m a better shot, anyway.’

Viktor snorted. ‘Care to make a wager, Brother; most kills wins and the loser dresses the meat?’

‘I’d take that bet any day.’

Lana laughed. ‘So long as I don’t have to do it. I’m no good with skinning.’

She turned away and got on with seeing to the horses, and Viktor felt a warmth flow through his chest as he observed her. He glanced at Sorin and saw the same feeling in his face. He couldn’t remember the last time he’d laughed, yet here he was in such anagreeablemood.

Shaking his head, he followed Sorin into the trees. They stayed together, watching for movement. Their blood began to pump as they stalked through the brush. They loved the hunt almost as much as they loved a good battle.

In the end, Viktor shot a small boar and Sorin killed two rabbits, so they called it a draw and hiked back to camp to prepare their feast. But when they got to the clearing, the horses were still saddled and there was no sign of Lana.
