‘Not yet.’
‘Better go tell him. You know how he is with humans who aren’t the Club’s.’
‘Yeah,’ I say, running a hand through my hair.
I’m not looking forward to that conversation and it’s probably why Sie didn’t come up with me. ‘Look, she got the shit kicked out of her pretty good. I don’t know how bad she’s hurt.’
Theo’s already checking her over. ‘Supes?’
‘Does it matter?’
He rolls his eyes. ‘Wouldn’t ask if it didn’t.’
‘Just some human fuckers preying on one of their own.’
Theo lets out a chuckle. ‘You get just as many predators among the humans as you do the supes, Bro. We just tend to forget that fact because we’re at the top of the food chain. I’ll take care of her. Go talk to Vic before he hears it from someone else.’
I nod and turn to leave, my eyes lingering on her for an extra second. What did she tell Vic her name was? Janet? Jane. That was it. Yeah, I’d definitely like a taste if I can get one.
I take the stairs down to the ground and start looking for Vic. He’s usually in the games room or the gym, but both those are empty, and, in the end, I find him holed up in the study. Like I said, it’s a freaking mansion.
This time I do knock, but it’s on the door frame as I cross the threshold. Vic’s sitting at the desk, looking deep in thought as he shuffles some papers around.
‘We’re back.’
He glances up and looks me over. ‘Where’s Drey?’
I don’t bother sitting and I give it to Vic straight, drawing my thumb across my throat.
‘Fuck,’ Vic hisses, throwing his pen down on the polished desk. ‘How?’
‘Don’t know yet. Found the girl. She’s hurt so I brought her back. She might be able to tell us more.’
Vic frowns. ‘You brought herhere? To the Clubhouse?’
Mansion.
‘Yeah.’
‘What the fuck, Paris? You can’t just bring outsiders here. What if she sees something she’s not supposed to?’
I give him my best security guy WTF-that-ain’t-gonna-happen look. ‘She’s unconscious, hurt pretty bad, so I took her up to Theo. He’ll do his thing and then you can find out more about what happened to Drey. I’ll keep her contained.’
‘See that you do. Anything blows back on us, and this is on you. Let me know when Theo is done. I might as well talk to her since she’s here.’
Vic goes back to his papers without another word, and I leave, heading to the kitchen to make myself a sandwich and wondering when the girl upstairs is going to be awake so Vic can interrogate her.
I wouldn’t like to be in her shoes that’s for sure. Vic’s not gonna go easy on her even if she did pay us to get rid of those guys for her.

JANE
When I come to, I open my eyes with a gasp, my eyes flitting around, trying to figure out where I am. The dark alley has been replaced by a large bedroom, the cold ground by a comfy bed, and Stacker by an incubus. He’s one of the ones from the bar, I think, but I can’t be sure.
He’s standing by a table, a First-Aid bag next to him. He’s filling a needle with something clear, and I sit up, gritting my teeth against the pain in my chest and my back. He doesn’t move, his eyes fixed on me.
Mine find the door.
