‘You’re at the Iron Incubi Clubhouse and my name is Theo. I’m the medic. You’re safe.’
The fuck I am!
He takes a step towards the bed, and I scramble out of it, keeping that needle in my sights.
He notices where my eyes linger.
‘It’s for the pain. You have a couple cracked ribs and some nasty bruises.’
Stacker really went to town on me with those kicks. What a prick.
If I was staying in town, I might be tempted to go find myself some revenge on that asshole somehow, but I’m leaving so I guess I’ll have to turn the other cheek Amish-style.
The incubus takes another step forward and I turn and sprint to the door without hesitation, flinging it open and booking it down the corridor like the fires of Mordor are on my ass.
I chance a look back but he’s not pursuing, and I realize why a second later as I hear someone coming up the steps in front of me. More than one. They’re talking with each other in low voices.
Fuckity. Fuckity. Fuckity. Fuck!
I dart into the nearest room and shut the door quietly behind me. No one comes in and I breathe a sigh of relief as I turn. Another bedroom. Now I just need to find—
My mind and body freeze. I’m not alone.
There’s a naked woman spread eagle on the bed. At first, I think she’s dead and I get a shit ton of horror vibes; the token human girl stuck in a house with an MC of killer incubi. I’m sooooo gonna die!
Then I notice her breathing and my heartrate evens out. She’s not a corpse. She’s just breathing very slowly, staring at the ceiling with a funny little smile on her face. It’s like she’s in a stupor and has no idea that I’m there.
I cross the room to the windows and try one, but it won’t budge. Painted shut. Outside, all I can see is black. No lights. No nothing. Where am I?
The handle of the door moves, and I hide in the first place I think of: behind the long curtain next to me.
Even as I move the curtain, I know this is a stupid plan. But it’s too late now. I’m committed. What is this? Scooby-Doo? You can probably see my feet and everything! Ugh!
Someone comes in.
‘Still here, huh?’
My heart practically explodes in my chest … but he’s not speaking to me. He’s talking to the woman on the bed. He hasn’t noticed me at all.
Ha! Dumbass.
Emboldened by this guy’s general lack of attention to detail, I chance a peek out into the room but there’s no one there. Then I hear the muffled sound of a shower start.
I spring out of the curtain just in time for the biggest guy I’ve ever seen to come walking out of the bathroom. He’s got like eight inches and two-hundred pounds of what appears to be pure muscle on me. We stare at each other for a split second, and I recognize him from the bar. He was sitting at the table, feeding off that blond.
His eyes move over me, and I run for it, but he’s way faster than I’d have given him credit for considering his stature and he’s barring the way out before I’ve gone two steps.
‘If you wanted to fuck an incubus, all you had to do was ask nicely.’ He smirks and I cock my head to the side as my heartbeat ratchets up.
‘I don’t want to fuck an incubus,’ I say, avoiding his eyes.
He snorts like he doesn’t believe me, and I shoot him an incredulous look.
‘I don’t!’
‘Then why are you in my room, little girl?’
His voice is low and the way he says ‘little girl’ makes my knees go weak … or maybe that’s just the tremendous pain I’m in making it hard to suck in enough air … or maybe it’s just my back spasming where Stacker kicked the shit out of me.
