Vic gives me a warning look. ‘We’re going toThe Circlefor business, not pleasure.’
‘For you,’ I mutter, vowing that I’m going to party like it’s 1999.
The club is perfect for Kor too. No humans, but it’s by invitation only and Maddox, the leader of the only other incubis around here, rarely lets those outside his clan enter his domain.
‘Can’t it be both?’ I ask louder.
Vic looks me up and down. ‘Not usually for you.’
I laugh sheepishly. That's fair. Last time I went out with the crew, I was drunk for three days straight and can't remember a thing.
‘But at least if we're atThe Circle, we can take a look around. We’ll just need a distraction for Maddox.’
‘I’m guessing you already have a plan for that.’
Vic nods. ‘I just might.’
The crowd is going wild, and I look back at the screen. The fight’s over. Korban, of course, is the winner. The referee has Kor’s arm held up high, and Kor’s just standing there in the middle of the ring. He doesn't look happy, but he doesn’t look upset or angry either.
As he ignores the crowd, looking directly at the camera, I stand up. I know what that look means and it was directed at me.
‘He wants to leave,’ I say.
Vic nods. ‘Victory party tomorrow night with the whole Club at the house. Make sure everybody knows. Any luck with your guy?’
I nod. ‘He got back to me. He’ll have everything he can find want on her delivered tomorrow. In the morning probably, he said.’
‘Good.’
I leave the table without another word, eager to go find Kor, but on the way out, I get waylaid by one of Callaghan’s crew.
He smacks into me as he passes and turns back. ‘Your boy better watch himself,’ he sneers.
I shrug and he pushes me again.
It's just half a breath before I move in and have a knife pressed to his right kidney.
‘Maybe you better watch yourself, friend.’
Giving him a wink, I leave him standing there, an astonished look on his face. They all think I’m the weak link and that suites me and the Club just fine. Few know the truth. I’m Vic’s wildcard. I could kill a third of this room in my fucking sleep and not break a sweat, so we pretend that all I do is fuck around and get drunk. I rarely show anyone the reality, but I’m not going to stand by as Korban is threatened and not do something about it.
Outside, the silence is welcome, but it’s sudden and almost eerie. There’s a noise- cancelling spell on the building so once the door to the warehouse is closed, no sound escapes at all.
A trashcan falls to the ground in the darkness down the alley and my eyes narrow as I peer into the shadows. Is someone—
The door opens, and Kor strides out into the street.
The noise forgotten, we mount up without a word to each other and ride through the town side by side. It’s only midnight, but we don’t stop anywhere until we get out into the sticks about halfway between the warehouse and the Clubhouse.
Korban turns down a dirt track, and I follow him closely, taking it slow.
He parks his bike by the side of the wide trail and walks out into the dark woods.
Taking off my helmet, I grin and follow him.
He's disappeared as I get into the woods though and my heart beats faster as I look for him. I chuckle low when I feel him pressing against me. He doesn't say a word, unzipping his pants as I turn and fall to my knees.
I know what he wants.
