I hear a door slam downstairs and stuff the panties in my pocket for later, leaving the room and flipping off the camera hidden in the light on the wall because I know Theo’s going to watch the tape later … if he isn’t right now.
I go downstairs to speak to Vic. For once, he's not behind his desk, but playing pool by himself in the games room. I grab a cue and take a shot.
‘We have a problem,’ I say.
Vic looks up at me in question.
‘Callaghan knew we have a new girl last night. Told me he heard she’s pretty, but she’s not all there. Said he’s going to get Maddox’s permission to play with her next time he’s here. We pimping out the on-call girls now?’
Saying it out loud pisses me off and I don’t bother to hide it. I’m not in the fight now and I don’t give a shit what Vic has in place with the other three girls, but we aren’t sharing this one.
I take my shot too hard and my ball flies off the table.
I have Vic's attention. ‘No. We’ve never loaned out our contracted girls. He was fucking with you. How did he know about her?’
I shrug. ‘A hole or a mole.’
Vic lets out a breath. He looks tired. ‘Get Paris to do a full security diagnostic. Magick and tech. If someone's spying on us, I want to know how.’
‘And if it's a spy?’ I ask.
‘It won't be one of the Iron I’s. Probably one of the human prospects; maybe Young or Andreas. They've gotten a little mouthy lately and they’re buddies, right?’
‘Yeah,’ I confirm. ‘Paris said they knew each other before. Met on the inside.’
We shoot some balls for a few minutes, not really playing a game just killing time.
‘You've been in her room again.’
I stifle a grin, not even bothering to hide it.
‘Can't get anything past you, Columbo,’ I say, taking another shot. ‘Is that a problem?’
Vic levels me with a look. ‘Depends on if you want to fuck her or kill her.’
‘Fuck, marry, kill?’ I laugh. ‘I haven't decided yet,’ I say in all honesty.
‘I'm contracting her to the Club today.’
That’s a bombshell that gives me pause. ‘But Sie wants her gon—’
‘Sie will deal with it,’ Vic interrupts, ‘and it seems like everyone's a little bit interested in this girl, Sie included, so try not to kill her just yet.’
‘I’ll do what I can,’ I say with a frown because if the darkness takes me, I won’t be in control, ‘but maybe make sure she's never alone with me.’
Vic nods. ‘She’s already been told.’
‘How are you going to get her to sign?’
Vic just about hides a dark smile. ‘Taking a leaf out of our friendly fae’s book; trickery and leverage.’
I snort. ‘Sounds about right. How much did we make last night?’
Vic looks me in the eye. ‘Few hundred grand. Enough to keep them off our backs for a couple months. Plus that orc stone gives us a little wiggle room if we can sell it soon.’
‘Nice.’
‘Next one’s in three weeks,’ he says.
