Her eyes widen and her mouth opens, but no sound comes out. She’s scared but the unmistakable lust that comes off her almost brings me to my knees.
She’s got the predilections of a much more experienced female and she’s potent as fuck. I sigh almost inaudibly as tendrils of power top me up like a tiny, delicious amuse-bouche.
‘Are you going to answer my questions honestly?’ I ask, clearing my throat and glancing at the others who are looking at her in various stages of surprise ... and much more hunger than before. This might be a problem.
Her eyes don't leave mine and she nods mutely.
‘Why did you throw your drink at Maddox?’ I ask again.
‘Because you left me at that table by myself and he touched me.’
She sounds accusing, but I can’t very well tell her that we left her there on purpose, knowing she’d distract him and his clan like a glittering ring to a magpie, so we could take a look around his club.
‘He touched you?’
She nods.
‘Where?’ I struggle to keep my voice level and my power in check, resolving to go back to the Circle later and pay Maddox back with a broken jaw.
‘He put his hand on my thigh and then he moved it up …’ She looks away, her cheeks reddening. ‘So I threw my drink in his face.’
My jaw tightens again, starting to ache with all this tension.
‘Go on.’
She shrinks down a little bit, and I hear Theo murmur behind me. I'm pushing at her with my power, something only I can do as leader of this clan. I drive it back and she breathes a sigh of relief.
‘Did he use his power on you?’ I ask, wondering if she’s going to lie herself into a corner so soon.
‘They all did,’ she whispers.
My eyes narrow. ‘How could you tell it was all of them?’
‘I … don’t know.’
My palm twitches. ‘Why didn't you tell us then and there?’
‘I don't know,’ she says again. ‘I was sitting at the table and Korban was there, but he was on the other side of the room and he wasn't—’
She breaks off and I look over at Kor who's staring like he wants to cross the room and snap her pretty little neck.
‘Korban wasn't paying attention?’ I say.
She looks down, not saying anything.
‘Answer!’ I command.
‘He wasn't paying attention,’ she whispers, recoiling.
I watch her for a few seconds. She doesn't wilt anymore, just stands there. She’s gone back to what she was doing when she first came here, staring past us not at us.
Anger courses through me. How dare she come here to take us down and not even stare at us in the face while she does it?
‘Who shall feed from you first,’ I wonder aloud, and I see her body tense.
It’s the fear of the unknown that’s going to get to her, I realize. She’s more scared of that than anything else. I’m only just able to keep the self-satisfied grin off my face. I know exactly how to torment the little human who finds herself locked in the den of monsters and it’s not with force.
‘How about a game?’ I say and practically see the guys perk up. ‘How about we give you five days to choose?’
