‘Do you always do it like that?’ I blurt, wanting to know more.
‘What? Medical play? Not always, but I like it. I think you do too, Miss Mercy.’ His eyes move over me. ‘Maybe we'll try something on my exam table next time?’
I feel like my eyes are going to bug out of my head any second.
‘Where is it?’ I whisper.
‘Maybe I’ll show you when we get back,’ he teases.
I can feel my blush and he chuckles.
‘But, unfortunately, there’s no time now, Princess.’
‘Why are you being so nice to me?’ I ask. ‘The game is over … right?’
He doesn’t answer right away, grabbing a black jacket and handing it to me.
‘The game was over as soon as you chose Sie,’ he confirms.
‘Then why? What’s in it for you?’
‘I like you.’
I frown. He likes me? Even though he knows about everything? I want to believe him, but is he messing with my head again?
The jacket he’s given me is a little bit too big, but I like the way it swamps me, and I know I won't get too cold on the motorcycle later.
‘Go grab your stuff and meet us downstairs in five.’
I run back to my room and find a small backpack on the top shelf of Theo’s closet to replace my missing one. I pack up my toiletries from the bathroom, grab my phone and charger and my new headphones too, not able to stop myself from looking inside the bag at them before I pack them in a separate pocket so they’re extra safe.
When I get downstairs, Vic is waiting for me in the foyer, looking at his watch. He’s dressed immaculately in another black suit, but his tie isn’t knotted. It hangs loose down his black lapels. Only half bedroom Vic, I muse. I wonder what that means.
He looks up, sees me, and frowns. As he opens his mouth, I know what he’s about to say, and I put up a hand to stay his words, but Theo swoops in and takes over.
‘She couldn't wear the stuff Paris bought. We’ll buy her some things when we get there. Plenty of time.’
He winks at me, and I can't help the small smile that plays on my lips. Except for Shar, I can't remember the last time anyone treated me like I matter. I’m trying not to let Theo and Paris get to me, but it’s hard.
‘Let’s go,’ Vic says, and Theo ushers me out.
I go into my bag to grab my new headphones, but then I see the limo. At first, I think we’re all riding in it together, but Theo doesn’t follow us.
‘Kor and I will be a half hour behind you,’ he says.
Vic lets me get in first and l clamber to the far side as he lowers himself into the seat after me. The door closes and the car immediately starts to move. The privacy screen is up and now that it’s just me and Vic, I’m feeling very nervous, so I just stare out the window in complete silence as the minutes tic by.
Bored out of my mind, I finally chance a look up at him and see he’s regarding me with a curious look on his face.
‘Will it help if I lose the suit?’ he asks me in that low baritone voice.
I nod jerkily. Bedroom Vic was much easier to be around.
He takes off his jacket, folds it in half lengthways, and lays it on the seat next to him. Next, he unbuttons his top two buttons and slides off the tie.
I swallow hard and try not to show it. Will he stop there or is he literally taking off theentire suit?
‘The shoes,’ I mutter, remembering his bare feet in his bedroom.
