When I didn’t move, Garrick reached around and grabbed my waist and carefully spun me.

The moment I was facing him, he reached around me and turned off the burner.

Then with his finger underneath my chin, he put slight pressure on it, which caused me to lift my face, and meet his eyes.

Then he winked, “Better.”

He moved so his forearms were caging me in on either side of the stove.

“Gonna make promises to you. Gonna keep them. If I don’t, you want to walk away. I won’t stop you. But know this, Tink. I don’t break my promises, and you want to walk away, then you better have a good fucking excuse. I’m not going to go quietly.”

“It’s like that?” I teased.

His eyes narrowed. “Yeah, it’s like that. I fight dirty, baby. You're not going to give me all that is you, I’m a patient man, baby, and then think you can take it away from me.”

I felt my breath catch, then I said, “So, what you're saying is, as long as you keep your promises to me, you plan on being with me for a while?”

He shook his head, “Nah. What I’m saying is that I plan to be with you forever. And I dare the man above to take you from me before he takes me.”

“And why is that?”

“Because the thought of spending one day on this earth without you... It’s unimaginable.”

My breath halted in my lungs.

I stared up into his eyes, and then he said the words.

“Going to be your safe place.”

And that was when I lost it.

Uncontrollable tears assaulted me.

My face slammed into his chest. I wrapped my arms around his waist, and we stood there, as I cried and he held me.

Garrick didn’t move.

He didn’t waver.

He just kept hold of me.

The moment my tears subsided, he winked.

We ate the bacon, and I tossed the eggs and remade them.

Scrambled.

I had just taken a bite of my last piece of eggs when he asked, “Tell me one thing.”

I looked at him as he sipped on a glass of orange juice.

“What do you want to know?”

“One thing you’ve always wanted to do but never could. Just one thing.”

I sat there as I thought about it.

Then I took in his house... “You said you're my safe place.”
