“Don’t be so sure about that,” Tyler retorted.“You have no idea how my wife tests me.”

What? But Ana just waved him away, for now.“Kane, though?Badass Kane Harte who uses his motorcycle to block a fleeing woman? He’d do it.”

Tyler exhaled.“Oh, I’m sure he would.In a heartbeat.Totally seems like his style.”

Kane leaned toward her even more.

She jumped to her feet. And leaned toward him.Since she was nowhere near his size, her lean wasn’t nearly as intimidating as his.

“You werefleeing,” Kane reminded her.“As in…leaving town. That was when I stopped you with my motorcycle. And, by the way, fleeing the area was your original plan.We are simply going back to it now.You don’t get to argue when it wasyourplan!”

“I can argue anytime!”A huff.“And the plan has changed.Everything has changed since that day.”

“Why?Don’t you still want to protect your friends?Aren’t you still worried that they will be threatened if you stay here?”

“I’m worried they will be threatened if I leave!I’m worried Logan will turn his attention on Zuri.”She had to call Zuri and let her know that she was all right.Ana was sure the shooting at her house had made the news.Where in the hell even was her phone? It hadn’t been in the go bag.Ana was highly suspicious that Gray had confiscated her phone.“I’m also worried Logan will come hard after you, Kane.He tried to kill you with that hail of gunfire, and he’ll come at you again.Especially if you are the red flag that is just waved in front of him when I’m gone.”

Kane eased back.The man shrugged.

She wanted to scream.“I happen to care if you live or die.”

“Good.”That was it.Just that grunt from Kane.

He was clearly trying to make her insane.“You aren’t facing the threat alone!”

“Baby, I am used to handling threats. It’s what I do.You’re not used to them. You’re used to playing music and teaching yoga and driving that cute-ass Jeep around town with your army of ducks near the front window. You don’t need to face off with Logan. He will hurt you.”

“The plan was to use me as bait!Gray’s plan, remember?”

“Ahem.”Tyler cleared his throat.Loudly.

She whipped her head toward him.

“I believe that was Gray’s planbeforeyou were nearly fed to sharks. And before Gray realized that he and Kane were targets, too.Now they are the bait, and you’re the witness that I am about to relocate out of town.”Tyler’s lips pulled down.“Our five minutes are probably up.Let’s take your sandwich to go.”

“I am not goinganywhere.” How much clearer did she need to be?“I ran before.Logan escaped prison and came after me.I’m done running.”

“Ana.”Kane spoke her name softly.Almost sadly. He slowly exhaled.“You were right.”

Her head turned back toward him.

“I would kidnap you.”Said with zero remorse or regret.“I’d handcuff you.I’d throw that sweet ass over my shoulder, and I’d take you out of here.I’d put you in Tyler’s vehicle, and I’d make sure that you got out of town and to a safe location.See, that’s why I told you that you didn’t really want to be with me.Because I’m an asshole.A bastard to the core.I would kidnap you and never have a single regret.”

She marched around the table.Stabbed a finger into his powerful chest.“Oh, be sure, I would make you have regrets.”

“You’d be alive, sweetheart, and that’s the only thing that matters to me.”

“Uh, excuse me,” Tyler interrupted.

“Youmatter to me,” Ana snapped at Kane as she ignored Tyler.“Do you get that?Did you miss it when I told you that I loved you last night? You know, when you were giving me the nonstop orgasms and I was holding onto you for dear life?”

“I should not be here,” Tyler said.“Should not be.”

Kane’s eyes glinted.“I didn’t miss it.I never miss a damn thing about you.But I do get weak when you’re near me.”

She sucked in a breath.“What?”

“The only reason that prick Logan is still breathing?Because I didn’t want you to see what a monster I can be.So I stopped.I didn’t pull the trigger even though your blood was soaking your shirt.”Rage vibrated in his words. He backed away. No, correction, moved away.Moved a good five feet from her.
