“We’re going to wrap things up a little early here today,” he continued in a gruff voice.
“Okay,” she managed to squeak.
“I’ll meet you upstairs.” He gave her one last smoldering gaze, then projected his voice. “Bye, Mrs. Choi. See you later, Shannon.”
Lizzy watched him walk out of the store with a swagger that was part attitude and part boner. Her hand fluttered to herchest, and she let out a Southern belle sigh.Be still, my throbbing vagina. She had to get the hell out of here.
“I think we should finish up the flying books tomorrow when we have better light.” Her voice was an octave higher than usual. For a lawyer, she was a horrible liar. “It’s a little overcast today.”
“Okay. No problem.” Shannon’s face split into a Cheshire cat grin. “Go and enjoy the rest of the day.”
“It was nice meeting you, Lizzy,” Mrs. Choi said cheerfully.
Lizzy waved at them with a weak laugh, then bolted out the door. She took off toward her apartment. Her high school track teacher should see her now. She could’ve been his star sprinter. She screeched to a halt at the bottom of the staircase. Jack sat on the top step with his arm resting on a raised knee.
Her breath caught in her throat. It should be illegal for a man as handsome as Jack to have so much sex appeal. How were mortal women expected to keep their panties on? She took one step, then another, up the stairs. He watched her like a panther stalking its prey—all coiled muscles and strength.
It was a good thing she was not expected to keep her panties on.
“Girlfriend, huh?” Lizzy said with her naked body draped over his.
“Yup. Problem?” Jack answered casually while he kept himself from tensing up under her. She lay satiated in his arms after he’d thoroughly ravished her. If she thought he was good enough for her, who was he to doubt it? To ease the sudden jolt of nerves, he swept his hand up and down her back, luxuriating in the feel of her soft skin. He might be addicted to touching her.
“No, none at all.” She shifted her hips off him and entwined her leg between his, properly snuggling him.
Relief rushed through him, and his hands tightened around her.Mine.But they might actually face some problems ahead.
“I need to tell my parents about us. I’m already going to get an earful for telling Mrs. Choi before I told them.” He paused, not sure how Lizzy would take the news. “So your parents will soon find out about us.”
“My dad will be thrilled. As for my mom…” She sighed, a sound filled with exasperation and resignation.
“She… she’ll think I’m not good enough for you,” he said quietly. Lizzy wanted him. She thought he was good enough for her. That was what mattered even if he wasn’t quite convinced he was.
“Well, she’ll be way off the mark.” She looked at him with a fierce gleam in her eyes. “My mom’s not happy with anything I do, so I plan on not paying much attention to her.”
Jack wrapped her in his arms and kissed her forehead. He didn’t want to cause problems in her already strained relationship with her mother, but he had no intention of allowing Mrs. Chung to come between him and Lizzy. He might not be good enough for her now, but he could be soon. If he landed that job with McBain and worked his ass off, he would be pursuing his own dream instead of being an accessory to his brother’s and sister’s dream. He would be more than a glorified bookkeeper who didn’t know where his life was headed. He would be his own man at last.
“You know what would be perfect right now?” She lifted herself onto an elbow.
He wanted to pull her back to him and hold on tightly. There was nothing more perfect than having her in his arms.
“What do you have in mind?” he said in a suggestive voice, nuzzling her neck.
“Hmm?” She tilted her head to give him better access.
“What would be perfect right now?” He made his way back up and nibbled on her earlobe.
“Not important. This…” She sighed. “This is perfect. Don’t stop.”
“Don’t worry. I always finish what I start.”
Every time he made love to her, he discovered something new—a hidden sensitive spot or a position that made her whimper and clench around him. He wanted to catalog all the different ways he could make her fall apart.
“I remember now,” Lizzy said, her words slightly slurred as she lay limp beside him. “Cupcakes.”
“Hmm?” He didn’t know if he could articulate words yet.
“Some cupcakes would be perfect right now.” Her stomach growled on cue. “We need to replenish all the calories we burned.”
