“Sorry, I’m not laughing at you,” she said. “This is all just . . .”
“Insane,” he replied. “I know. But it feels good, doesn’t it?”
Ellie nodded. “A hundred percent right.”
“I just hope your mother likes me,” he said.
“She will,” said Ellie. “She met my last boyfriend. To be honest, if I went home and told her I was dating a turkey she’d think it was an improvement.”
“Er . . . thanks?”
She laughed. “That was supposed to be a compliment. It came out wrong. But don’t worry, you’re whisking me to her in a private jet — she’ll be impressed. Oh, wait, I should tell her that I’m arriving at a different time and a different place in a different mode of transport. And with a guest. She’ll be thrilled.”
“I hope she doesn’t mind,” he said. “There’s a car waiting for us at the airfield ready to take us to your mum’s farm. We shouldn’t be too much longer.”
“Really?” she said. “That’s great. I guess money really can buy anything.”
“Not for much longer,” Blake said. “This is a company jet. The only reason I’m on it is because they haven’t stripped all my credentials yet. I can’t even guarantee we’ll be able to fly it back. From now on, I might not have a lot to my name. Certainly not a lot to offer. Though, I do have this for you.”
He opened the overhead compartment and pulled out his dog-eared copy ofThe Swiss Family Robinson.
He handed it to her. “It’s a little used,” he said. “It was my mum’s, and it’s not an early edition like the one you lost, but it’s a rare print. I want you to have it.”
Ellie stared at the book, her lips parted in surprise, her fingers brushing over the cover as though it was made of spun gold. She glanced up at him, her eyes shimmering. “You remembered,” she said, her voice almost a whisper.
“Of course I remembered.” His gaze locked with hers. “I remember everything you—”
Before he could finish, Ellie was on her feet, closing the space between them in a heartbeat. She grabbed his shirt, pushing him back against the table opposite with a force that knocked the breath out of him. Then her lips crashed against his, and the world around him dissolved.
The kiss was fire and electricity, igniting something in him. His hands found her waist, pulling her flush against him as ifthe mere inches of space between them were unbearable. Her fingers tangled in his hair, tugging slightly, and a low growl rumbled in his throat in response. Every nerve in his body surged to life, his senses overwhelmed by the softness of her lips, the sweet, faint scent of her, the way her body pressed so perfectly against his.
Blake had never felt anything like it. He wasn’t just kissing her. He was unravelling, every guarded piece of him falling away as her warmth consumed him. The pressure of her mouth, the way she sighed against him, sent a jolt of raw need straight to his groin.
When she finally pulled back, her breathing ragged, her cheeks flushed, Blake could barely think straight. Her hands rested on his chest, her fingers splayed as if she needed to steady herself. He stared at her, dazed, his body humming with energy and craving more.
Ellie met his gaze, her eyes darker than he’d ever seen them, her expression somewhere between astonished and hungry. For a moment, neither of them said anything, their heavy breaths filling the charged space between them.
Then she pushed him down onto one of the leather seats and straddled him in one fluid movement. The moment her hips ground down onto his, Blake nearly lost his mind. She tugged at his shirt, pulling it free from his waistband and ripping open the buttons, her hands hot and urgent on his skin.
He was already hard, straining against his suit trousers, and when her hand cupped him through the fabric he had no idea how he didn’t come right there and then.
“Fuck, Ellie,” he groaned, his head falling back against the seat, his jaw clenched tight.
She popped the button on his trousers, dragged down the zip, and wrapped her fingers around his cock.
He hissed through his teeth, hips bucking at her touch. “You’re going to kill me.”
Her grip tightened, stroking him with a maddening rhythm. He closed his eyes, his breath coming in short, ragged bursts. He was dangerously close, teetering on the edge, but he needed to be inside her. Now.
Pulling her hips, he slid a hand under her dress and tugged her panties to the side, releasing himself from her hand and guiding his tip to her core. She was hot and wet, and he felt her tremble on his lap.
“Wait,” he said, breathlessly. “Do you have a condom?”
“No,” Ellie let out a sigh. “I wasn’t exactly expecting this. Don’t you?”
“Shit,” he muttered. “Not on me. Packed away in the hold.”
Ellie collapsed onto his chest, laughing, her body still wrapped around his. “For a billionaire, your plane isn’t very well stocked, is it?”
