“It’s not—” She moaned against his mouth in frustration. “It’s not enough.”

“I know.” He nodded eagerly, cursing when she began to dry hump him to gain more friction. It did nothing to ease the ache between her thighs. “I’m trying to be a gentleman about this and allow you to tell me what it is you want, but?—”

“Don’t,” she pleaded. After all, she didn’t knowwhatshe wanted when she had little experience, but she wanted to learn. “Please don’t be a gentleman right now.”

“Thank fuck.” As if a tether had snapped, Erebos growled his appreciation and returned the favor by shovinghertunic to her neck. He made quick work of the band that concealed her breasts, his eyes softening at the sight of her pebbled nipples. “I’m going to destroy you in all the ways that matter,Little Mortal.”

“Please,” she begged.

Following orders, his hand slipped between them to shove into his trousers, fumbling as he tried to gain his bearings. She tipped her head back in pleasure when he darted his tongue out to lick her nipple, slurping on the hardened bud. “You have no idea how long I’ve thought about this,” he groaned. “No idea how long thoughts of you have consumed my every waking breath.”

“Erebos.”It wasn’t enough. She was everything but nothing all at once, right on the precipice of pleasure, seconds from teetering over the edge, yet nowhere near it. It was infuriating.

“Moan my name like that again,” he ordered. “Let me hear you beg for it, Alessia.”

Take.

Take.

Take.

The word repeated itself on a loop in her mind, and she was seconds from slipping her hand into his pants to take his cock out herself when there was suddenly a clearing of a throat behind them.

Cheeks aflame, Alessia snatched the band for her breasts and held it to her chest, even though it was only her back on display for either Eryx or Izara.

“Go. Away,” Erebos ordered with a lethal bite to his tone.

“Apologies for interrupting, but I was sent to retrieve you to bring you back to the campsite for the night.” Eryx’s voice lacked its usual casualness, lingering with that bitter bite from earlier.

“Leave us,” Erebos repeated.

“It is a rather far journey?—”

“It’s okay.” Quickly securing the band back into place, Alessia pulled her tunic down and shifted on his lap so he could do the same with his t-shirt. She didn’t want to anger the general any more than he already was, and getting to the campsite in one piece was more important than getting distracted by lust, despite what her hormones tried to tell her.

Erebos muttered something beneath his breath before rising to his feet and taking her with him. Her legs wrapped tightly around his waist, grinding against something that was very much still wide awake and ready to go. It had her body protesting to continue where they left off, but with a lot more at stake than having an orgasm, she decided it would be best to save it for another time.

“Don’t think I’m done with you, Little Mortal,” he whispered into her ear. “I was only getting started.”

Chapter 27

Alessia

“We found water from a nearby tunnel.” Izara passed a canteen to Alessia, nose crinkled in disgust. “It doesn’t look the best, but it’s something.”

Alessia’s canteen had spilled and emptied during the battle with the argentinosaurus. With her ankle still puffy and swollen, the soul seeker had offered to try to find a replacement, but with a sniff of her nose, Alessia almost gagged. It smelled off, like boiled eggs mixed with seaweed.

“Take mine,” Erebos said. “I’ll drink this.”

Alessia clutched the canteen when he tried to take it from her. “Absolutely not. You don’t have powers, Erebos, which means you’re more susceptible to illness. If anyone should drink it, it’s me.”

They had taken shelter in a secluded part of the cave, hidden behind a wall of spiked stone and rubble. It smelled damp here, like clothes left in a washer for too long, and Alessia’s body chilled with uneasiness thelonger they remained in the pits. Being here felt unnatural, like this level of Hell was reserved for corrupt and vile demons with bad intentions. She felt out of place—a foreign entity in a realm that wasn’t meant for her.

“Take mine,” Izara suggested, holding out her canteen. “I will drink the one you have.”

“I can drink this,” Alessia reaffirmed. She didn’t feel right having others take the consequences of her canteen spilling. It was her fault it fell out of the backpack to begin with. When Erebos offered to carry it for her, she should’ve ensured it was secured.

“I know you can, but you shouldn’t have to.” Izara seemed frustrated that she couldn’t elaborate further. “I should be the one to drink the tainted water.”
