If he could work out how to take out them, at least, that was something. Something Snow could work with.

Unless he was willing to take his mother’s life himself.

It would be the lesser of two evils, wouldn’t it? Morally, probably, the right thing to do.

But he already knew he couldn’t do it.

The Mirror paused. “The shades are dwarven in origin. They are shielded from my gaze.”

“Is that how Snow remained safe all these years?”

The Mirror nodded. “Any further questions, my prince?”

“No,” said Cole stiffly, “that will be all.”
