“I’m not asking for that,” he said quickly, his voice urgent but soft. He took a hesitant step closer, eyes searching hers. “I just… I want you to love me however you want.”

He swallowed hard, his jaw tightening as he forced the words out.

“I won’t say anything cruel again.” His voice dropped to a whisper, raw and sincere. “I won’t say anything that could hurt you ever again.”

Emily took a deep breath, frustration tightening her chest. Her face hardened, voice dropping to a quiet, cutting whisper.

"You still don’t get it. I don’t love you anymore—not because I forgot the past, but because the moment I saw you after losing my memories, I realised something..."

She looked him straight in the eyes, her voice turning colder.

"You’re not the kind of boyfriend who ever really loved me."

His expression faltered, confusion and shock clouding his eyes.

“You’re just a man who prefers Amelia.” Her voice was flat, stripped of all emotion, but her fingers curled into fists at hersides. “You favored her. You treated me badly because of her. Even when she wasn’t the reason, you still made me feel like I was in your way. Like I wasn’t your girlfriend, just a burden you were forced to tolerate.”

She paused, meeting his gaze without flinching.

“It doesn’t matter anymore. I’ve broken up with you. You need to accept it, and move on with your life.”

She turned away from Lucas and started marching off, her heels echoing against the pavement. But in a heartbeat, he grabbed her wrist and pulled her back toward him.

“Don’t walk away. You need to talk to me properly.”

Before she could reply, her phone rang.

She jerked her hand out of his grasp without hesitation, fingers trembling slightly as she dug through her bag. She pulled out her phone and glanced at the screen.

His eyes followed. The second he saw Jacob’s name flashing, his jaw clenched tight—muscles twitching. A nerve ticked near his temple.

Without a second thought, she picked up the call. “Hello?” Emily answered brightly.

“Where are you?” Jacob’s voice came through. “You’re late. Don’t tell me you’re skipping work—we’ve got that project to wrap up from yesterday.”

Her voice softened, a gentle laugh in her tone. “You care about me so much,” she teased lightly. “I’m right outside. I’ll be there in just a few seconds.”

Lucas watched her with fire in his eyes. The way she laughed with Jacob—the warmth in her voice—stabbed at him. Shehadn’t spoken tohimlike that in months. Not even once since her accident. She glanced at him once during the call, but the moment her eyes met his, her expression turned cold again.

The contrast stung like ice.

She hung up and turned to leave again.

“Emily,” he called out, his voice rising. “Have you forgotten what today is?” he asked, breath ragged with emotion.

She paused mid-step and turned to look at him, eyebrows raised in confusion. “What are you talking about?”

“Today is our five-year anniversary.”

She blinked once, then tilted her head slightly. Her tone was cool, almost dismissive. "Good. Then consider this the official end of a five-year relationship."

Without another glance, she turned and walked away again.

His anger, already simmering, froze solid into something deeper. His entire body tensed. That one line cracked something in him.

In two long strides, he caught up to her, grabbed her arm, and pulled her back—hard—crashing his lips onto hers in a desperate, almost reckless kiss. His hands cupped her face, holding her still as he kissed her. His mouth moved over hers—demanding, possessive, aching.

But Emily shoved him away. Hard. He stumbled a few steps away, eyes wild, chest heaving.
