I’m wiping tears when I look back at him, and he quickly sits up, cradling my face and brushing them away with his thumb.
“Some of these are from the night we met,” I say.
He nods. “I couldn’t get you out of my head. So I started putting things into this note.”
“You, Everett Lawson, are not the grump you let everyone think you are.”
He shakes his head. “Only to you. Everyone else can fuck off.”
I chuckle and hand him his phone back. I don’t ask aboutthe new nickname he has for me, because I have this gut feeling it’s going to break me, and I’m not ready for that.
I curl back into his side and take a deep breath before I ask my next question, knowing it could change everything, for good or bad.
“Should we talk about what this means for us? What we are.”
His hand resumes its movements through my hair.
“What do you want us to be?” he asks.
