“And the pacifier?” I finally ask.
“I have more than enough information to get you all the way to the front door, where you can get your revenge.”
“Yeah, we should have gone with that one first.”
“Nadia, listen to me. I’m not an optimistic man; if you want that, then you need to call Ez. I’m here to give you the factsstraight and cold, because filling your head with hope and butterflies isn’t going to prepare you for what you may find.”
“I appreciate that, Ra. I’ve never been a sugar-coated kinda bitch anyway.”
“Good, then you’re with the right brother. Now, I’m updating your GPS and sending over this file with all of Kace’s background information. Don’t dwell on it, Nadia. I know a broken heart when I see one; if you stew on what might have been, your delay could cost you more than you have to give.”
“Al—alright.”
“I’ll be in touch soon. Grab an energy drink and get back on the road.”
I knew he drank those nasty fucking things.
He’s right, and I know it. Sadie needs someone to come in swinging, who will fight anyone to bring her back to a place where she will be loved and kept safe. A place where she still has family, even if it’s a little on the small side and unconventional.
Sadie needs me angry, willing to put Lucien Bardot in the ground, and that’s what she’s going to get.
I’ll take an hour to look over what Ra is sending me, allow myself to feel one last time, then I’m going to delete everything and let Kace rest, once and for all.
Chapter six
Kace
Past
“What the hell is that supposed to mean?”
She’s so fucking nosy, I swear to God. Why can’t she just let me be nice to her and take a compliment without needing to overanalyze everything, or find a deeper meaning?
Smirking, I roll my eyes. Reaching under her chin, I tilt her to look at me, losing myself in the spiteful thing’s silver eyes. Darker around the rim, so sharp and detailed in the middle with just enough light refracting off of them that they’re nearly glowing. Full of what I seriously hope is love.
“My entire night sky… you’re dangerous, volatile, and terrifying. But you’re also breathtaking, you consume me, andnot a single fucking thing in existence can compare to how I yearn to know every square inch of you. Just when I think I found the end, you show me a whole new side and I fall even more in love with you.”
“You’re awfully mushy,” Nadia teases, but she looks at me like she believes me.
“You don’t know the half of it, baby girl,” I smirk.
Leaning in, ghosting my lips across hers, I feel her tense and start to shift in my hold so I let her do just that. My hands glide along her waist when she spins to face me, her breath spilling over my lips, allowing me to taste her without having to kiss her. Nadia fills my senses like nothing I have ever experienced. I feel her presence in the porous marrow of my bones. Then when I touch her soft skin; the smell of her hair and body spray digs into my nose and permeates itself, and there’s the sound of her voice. It echoed in my ears while in SEG and it haunts my goddamned dreams; ringing in time with every pleading gasp when I bring her to the edge during these fitful nights.
But kissing her?
Fuck, I leave myself behind and become a shadow of her.
“Say it again,” she whispers.
“I love you.”
