“I’m in, Major,” he stated.

God.

She asked him that so many times over the years, but this was the first time he didn’t want to be in.

And he lied.

“Okay, then, we have to backtrace the killings to him in hopes that it will lead us to wherever he is. He is operating here, and there’s a reason.”

Yeah, no doubt.

Maura continued.

“That a bunch of Marines were killed here, and who were all in the same platoon live in this city, I’m going to say it’s connected. We need to get to the next Marine beforeBlackStone’s militia does.”

That was a little better.

“And you’re staying in.”

She shook her head.

“No. I’m not, because I was there that day when Lewis was shot, and we thought he was going to die. That was my operation, and he got hurt because some asshole was gunning for me. I’m going to help. I’m the reason he got hurt, and we were shot. I owe Von Donore one too.”

He held his breath and counted to twenty to calm down.

When he was a little less volatile, he wanted to know what the plan was.

“And how are we doing this?” he asked. “What’s your plan?”

She went there.

“We’re going to hit the two dead Marine’s homes. Maybe there’s something there. If nothing pops up there, we’re going to hit the last two Marines who were in the same platoon. They are going to be harder to find. By now, they’ve heard that the shit is hitting the fan. We’re also going to find Von’s hidey-hole. He has to be holed up in the city somewhere. He has officesEVERYWHERE.”

Jagger turned.

Then, they were going to get this done.

Now, they needed to hustle up.

“Do we have list of everyone who was in that joint mission between the US and UK?” he asked.

Merry was running it.

“I’m working on it right now. I’m into the Pentagon’s records, or should I say MATE is. Give me five,” she said. “Then, you’ll have it.”

That worked for him.

Only, Jagger had bad news.

“I don’t think we need to send Boone in to find out who the killers are, since it’s all going to tie back toBlackStone.”

Boone didn’t look happy.

“Uh, I was finally going to work something. You’re not going to cock block me on this, are you?”

He apologized.

“Sorry, my dude, and please stop saying‘cock’around me. It’s weird.”
