Yeah…

They’d all missed this one.

“The picture only had all of the first names on it,” Jinx admitted. “We didn’t ask his last name since he was killed in Afghanistan.”

This was bad.

They knew where Von Donore took off to get to so goddamn fast.

Poe’s home.

“He’s in trouble,” Jagger said.

There was a problem.

“We have to get there, but it’s on the other side ofNew Orleans,” Dakota admitted. “It’ll take an hour to get there.”

She knew how to cut down the time.

“I’ll head into the warehouse district and watch the building,” she said. “I’ll take Ivan, Raphael, and Gunny. You guys take the helicopter on the roof and get to Gamble. If we have any chance of saving Gamble and Poe, we’re going to have to haul ass and divide up.”

Elizabeth was right, so they scrambled.

They made a big mistake not digging intoALL OFthe dead soldier’s lives.

And truthfully, they hoped Gamble and Poe didn’t pay with their lives.

Finally, it was late enough in the night that they figured they would be safe. The trek to the quad wouldn’t be bad. All they had to do was get to it, and then get deeper into Native Land to find someone to drive them back toNew Orleans.

In theory, it shouldn’t be too difficult.

If Gamble could get them back to Chartres, they’d be safe. That was his main goal, and the only thing he could focus on.

Once there, he could tuck Poe away in the safety of The Hunter’s other base, and Von Donore wouldn’t find him.

Then, after the sun came up, they’d get Rufus to the vet, and make sure he was okay too.

Now, packed up, and with Gamble carrying the dog, they were moving out into the evening air.

He got Poe through the opening with no freak out, but he wasn’t shocked.

The man was silent, and he understood since he was mourning his parents.

Gamble never had to do that, since he didn’t know where the fuck they were.

And it didn’t matter to him.

Carrying Rufus, he made sure to keep an eye on Poe. Only, suddenly, the hairs on the back of his neck stood up, and he just knew.
