Doubt.
“So to answer your question, no, I’ll never use a child to damage you, especially since I know what you’ve been through.”
Even though they’d discussed it before, it bared repeating.
Gamble relaxed.
There wasn’t an ounce of lie detected in that sentence.
“And that’s why I feel secure enough with having children with you. I don’t know how we’ll do that, but I’m sure there’s a way for two men to make babies without carrying a baby.”
It was time to point out the obvious.
“If my bloodline is to continue, the Seville-Gordon one, I have to father a child or two,” he said. “That being said, I would really love to hold a child made from you, Gamble. I like kids, and I’ve never wanted any until I met you. Your beautiful bi-colored eyes make me want to stared into our own children’s eyes and see what we can make together.”
Gamble put his hand out, and Poe put his in it. In that moment, they both made a silent vow to each other.
They’d not only love, honor, and cherish, but they’d grow that and foster it into something more.
A legacy.
“I trust you, Poe. I’ll always trust you. I knew I’d never love a woman again, but falling in love with you, a man, has beenthe best thing that ever happened to me. I want to have kids. When we take care of this Von Donore bullshit, let’s regroup and start the process. How about four?” he asked.
Poe considered it.
“Two and two?” he asked, meaning genetically.
Gamble nodded.
“Maybe a boy and girl from each of us. I loved being a girl dad, but I’d love playing catch with my sons too.”
That was a beautiful visual.
“And teaching my girls how to make sure no man hurts them by showing them how to incapacitate with crushing someone’s throat.”
Wordless, Poe stared at him, and with good reason.
“Too much?”
He laughed.
“Maybe tone that back a bit. How about just a punch to the balls? That’s effective and won’t land someone in jail for homicide.”
Gamble grinned.
“Can do.”
Yeah, this was the beginning of a gorgeous journey, and they both knew it.
Step one…
Survive.
Step two…
Take out Von Donore.
Step three…
