In his line of work, it didn’t pay.

Now, he had a new life here, and being with a Duke was going to be interesting.

There were a few cars in there, and all of them were nice.

“I hope I remember to drive on the correct side of the road,” Gamble said. “And how to drive.”

At his words, Poe stared over at him.

“Wait. You do know how to drive, right?” he asked, caught off guard.

Instead of answering, Gamble considered the question as he backed out of the garage, and started driving toward the gate.

“Gamble?” he asked.

The man was amused, and busting his ass. The whole plan was to keep Poe distracted from what was coming.

“I mean, I guess I do. I can drive a horse. Does that count?” he asked, joking.

At the words, Poe stared at him.

“Drive a horse?” he asked.

“Yeah, you know…to go get squirty cream.”

Now, he knew he was busting his ass, and Poe began laughing.

The man was funny.

God.

He was so grateful they were doing this together. Poe was now seeing the real Gamble, and he loved him.

As the massive iron gate opened, and they drove through to get to the country road, Gamble purposely was on the wrong side—for that country.

For America, he was on the correct side.

Immediately, Poe laughed harder, momentarily forgetting the pain he was feeling.

This was love.

This.

Right.

Here.

“What’s this pedal do?” he asked, pressing hard, and the Bentley shot forward as Poe squealed in amusement. “Was that the brake?”

And Poe knew one thing.

Gamble would get him through this. There was no doubt that he was in good hands.

It looked like he’d fallen in love with the right man.

For this job.
