“Hey.” he tilts my chin up, forcing me to meet his gaze. “You are capable, intelligent, and diligent. I would not have agreed to take on this case if I didn’t think you were ready. We’re a team, remember? I’m here to guide you every step of the way.”

His unwavering faith in my abilities eases my anxiety, and I manage a small smile. “You’re right. I know we can do this together.”

“That’s my girl.” He presses a quick kiss to my forehead and steers me toward the door. “Now, let’s go over the details of the case again. The more prepared we are, the less room there is for mistakes.”

Bolstered by his support, I follow him out the door with renewed determination. We will win this case, of that I am sure. After all, who can possibly stand against us when we are working as a team?

We meet with the Johnsons to go over their testimony and prepare them for cross-examination. Mr. Johnson is amiable enough, but Mrs. Johnson keeps shooting me suspicious glares, as if she didn’t quite trust me to handle their case. I did my best to reassure them, explaining our strategy in detail and emphasizing the extensive research and preparation that has gone into developing the strongest possible defense.

By the end of our meeting, Mrs. Johnson seems mollified. Her doubt has awakened my own fears again, and I second-guess every decision we have made.

As we leave the Johnsons’ house, Dallas notices my uncharacteristic silence. “What’s bothering you?” he asks, sliding an arm around my waist. “You did great in there. The Johnsons would be foolish not to have full confidence in you.”

I sigh, leaning into his side. “I know. It’s just...what if I make a mistake?”

“You won’t,” Dallas says. “You’re the most dedicated, hardworking person I know. You’ve poured your heart and soul into this case. When the time comes, you’ll be completely in your element.”

“You have too much faith in me,” I say.

“And you have too little faith in yourself,” he retorts. “But that’s why we’re such a good team. I believe in you enough for both of us.”

His unshakable confidence is what I need to silence the doubts swirling in my mind. With Dallas by my side, I can face any challenge or setback. Together, we are unstoppable.

Two weeks go by, and this case has taken a toll on both of us, but it’s the biggest case I have ever been a part of and hope that it goes in our favor. Dallas and I have been staying late at the office almost every night, going over theories, rebuttals, and anything that might come up during the trial. Now, we are waiting for the verdict.

The foreman stands up, clearing his throat. A hush falls over the courtroom. “We the jury find in favor of the plaintiff.”

For a moment, I can’t breathe. Then the meaning of the words sinks in, and I turn to Dallas with a radiant smile. We won!

He pulls me into an exuberant hug, spinning me around. The courtroom erupts into cheers and applause. Even the judge is smiling as he bangs his gavel for order.

All my doubts and fears seem to melt away, replaced by a deep satisfaction in a job well done.

The victory attracts significant media attention, raising the profile of the firm. New clients start calling, impressed by the success in such a high-profile case. My coworkers congratulate me, praising my invaluable contributions. I have proven myself beyond doubt, cementing my reputation as one of the firm’s rising stars.

Dallas and I go out for a fancy celebratory dinner, toasting our success with glasses of champagne. “Here’s to the unstoppable duo,” Dallas says, his eyes shining with warmth and affection.

I smile, raising my glass. “To new adventures and a bright future together.” Our victory is only the beginning. Many more challenges lie ahead, but as long as we have each other, there’s no limit to what we can achieve.

Things seem different today. The office is quiet when I walk in, and everyone is on their second cup of coffee.

“Morning.” Dallas says, gesturing me into his office.

“I was thinking...” he begins. “Move in with me. I want to wake up with you in my arms every morning.”

I stare at him, stunned into silence. Then a slow smile spreads across my face. “Yes. Absolutely yes.”

Dallas’s face lights up as he pulls me into his arms. “Fantastic! I’ll have your things moved in this weekend. This is going to be great, sweetheart!”

My heart swells with joy. Who would’ve thought that the infamous Mr. De La Cruz would turn out to be such a hopeless romantic? I snuggle into his embrace, excited about this new chapter of our lives together.

The rest of the weekend passes in a blur as Dallas’s men transfer box after box from my apartment to his spacious home. By Sunday evening, the last of my belongings have found their place in our home. Our home. I still can’t quite believe it.

Dallas slid his arms around my waist as we admired our combined living room. “Happy with how everything turned out?”
