Everythingin the world felt right. Something about being in his arms, my head to his chest. He felt right, even though this type of connection with any man had me about ready to shit bricks. I was praying he didn’t break the trust we’d built up. Because despite trying not to, I liked him… a lot.
“You down there fighting your sleep just to stay up and overthink some shit.”
I giggled because he caught me off guard. Why was he up?“I was not.”
“Then what were you thinking about, Cay?” He didn’t believe me, which he was right not to, because I was indeed overthinking.
“This is my mind. I can think what I want.”
At this point it was his turn to laugh. “Yo, you something else. Didn’t you just tell me you had heads to do at five?”
“And don’t you have to be at the club tonight?” I countered, being difficult because he was right.
“Yeah, but I’m used to lack of sleep. I know you ain’t. You need your eight or nine hours because without it you ’ont remember shit and you airy in there, Caybaby.” His fingertip tapped my temple.
“I am not.”
“Yeah aight. Then you be ’bout mean as fuck.”
“Uh, no. I know what day you’re talking about and I told you I was PMSing. Any and everybody can get it the week before and days of my period.” I sat up and stared down at him. He had a big ass grin on his face as always.
“And here I thought you needed some dick. I was about thirty seconds from asking if I needed to drop some off to you ’cause hell nah.” He pulled me back down, cradling me against him.
“Good thing you didn’t say that to me because I probably would have cursed you out.”
“Nah, I wouldn’t have. Probably would’ve popped up on straight business.”
I giggled. “Are you sure you’re ready for this?” I didn’t mean to change the subject, but I had to ask.
“Shit, who knows, but the fact that I want you makes this a no brainer. I’m willing to try as long as you’re willing to be patient with me and not become extremely angry about shit I cannot control.”
“Shit you cannot control like what? Your business?”
“Yeah, that’s just my business, nothing more.”
I nodded. “I feel you, and I’m gonna try my hardest not to nut up and to stay away from your place of business. Just please keep the bitches out of your face.”
He laughed. “Scout’s honor, bae. I’ma keep the bitches out my face even though don’t a sou?—”
“Don’t feed me that because the way Juicy talked about you at her appointment that time. Had I not known you and quickly realized she was embellishing some things, I would have believed you were her man. Speaking of, I’ma need you to shatter that fantasy she’s carrying.”
“Fantasy?” he asked and I could tell by the sound of his voice his face housed confusion.
“Yes, she thinks y’all are gonna be together.” I flipped over, chest to bed and chin to the crook between his underarm and his chest.
“I’on know what gave her that idea. You see the way me and you talk and the way I be all in your space? It’s different. I talk to you because I’m comfortable doing so. It comes naturally because between me and you it’s always been that way.”
“Good.”
I was caught off guard when he flipped my body, pinning me under him while his face hovered over mine. “Don’t be tryna check me.”
“I’m not. I’m just making sure I speak on things and not assume.”
He dipped his head, lips pressing against mine. “So you not about to take your ass to sleep?”
“I am. Well, I was but now you’re hovering over me.”
He grinned down at me, eyes holding joy. The type that was contagious because within seconds I was handing over a toothy grin. All my overthinking had ceased, and in this moment and every other one I foresaw in the future, it was just him and me.
