“Me?”Iasked.

“You,”Allainreplied. “Commhim and share this with him.”

This was between a king and a prince.

A son and his father.

I felt strongly about whatIwas doing withNata, butIwasn’t sureIfelt strongly enough,Iwas willing to cause (more) family discord for my mate.

“I don’t think?—”

“Trust me,MistressLaura.”

I studied his face, and even thoughIdidn’t thinkAlekseiwould want to be disturbed with something like this, and whatIread inAllain’sexpression didn’t make me all fired up to do it, it still made me do it.

I reached in my bag, nabbed myPalm, got up and walked to the long windows behind the desk inAllain’soffice.

I pulled up his name and hit audio only.

I stared unseeing at the massive, formal courtyard garden situated in the middle of thePalacesquare and put thePalmto my ear.

Germaine might not be able to get through, but the tone sounded once beforeIheard, “Hello, love.”

“Uh, hi.Wehave a little bit of a situation here,”Itold him.

The warmth had swept out of his tone, replaced with wary, when he asked, “What’sthat?”

“News got around aboutNata.Germaineis here, and we’ll talk about the response toNaylyn’sritual later.”

“Bloody hell,” he murmured.

“But…the king has forbidden me to interviewNata.”

Silence fromAleksei.

No.

Such utter silence,IworriedI’dnever hear sound again.

Then he growled, “Interviewher.”

“Honey—”

“And if you like her, hire her.”

“I don’t?—”

“I’m leaving shortly to meet you.I’llsee you soon.”

With that, he disconnected.

Oh boy.

I turned toAllainandGermaine. “Hesays to interview her.”

Germaine started to say something, butAllainspoke first.

“Excellent.Onyour way out, will you tellNatawe’re ready for her?”
