Beg him to touch me? Yeah right. But even I didn’t believe myself when I felt a thrill run through me at his words. Luckily when I woke up the next morning, the tent was empty and I could hear him outside as he packed up. Once camp was broken down we continued on. Unlike yesterday when I was distracted by the beauty of the forest and the possibility of this being a quick hike—today, the realization of just how remote we were was like a heavy weight on my shoulders. It didn’t help that my entire body was sore.. Since Graham didn’t want to talk, there wasn’t anything to distract myself and within the first few hours I was bored. The forest was beautiful but so monotonous.

“If you sigh again, I might just have to forget our deal,” Graham grumbled from ahead of me.

“Well, it would help if you’d talk to me,” I said.

“You just want to talk about me.” He wasn’t wrong.

“You could ask me questions too you know,” I snipped.

“Sweetheart, I already know all about you,” he said arrogantly.

“Oh yeah?”

“Yup.”

“Care to share?” He was quiet for such a long time I didn’t think he was going to humor me.

“You’re in corporate of some kind—”

“Already established that,” I interrupted and he threw me an annoyed look.

“—probably sales or a lawyer or something from the way you like to talk. You’re engaged to an asshat of a man—who is a bully and mediocre in bed at best. You like nice things but aren’t materialistic and you live in some big city like LA or New York. You’re a swimmer, probably have been all your life, and unless God decided you’re his favorite, you workout and possibly do yoga. You’re used to getting your way but you like to think it’s not all because of your good looks.”

I stay silent. He was eerily accurate.

“How’d I do?” He asked sarcastically. He looked at my face and saw the truth there. “That’s what I thought.”

“I mean, it’s not all accurate but yeah—you’re pretty close.”

“Which part wasn’t right?”

“That Tyler is bad in bed,” Even as I said it, I knew it was a lie.

“We’re back to that again? You must not have ever had mind blowing sex.”

“Yes, I have,” I shot back, offended. “Tyler is a wonderful lover.”

“See—again,‘wonderful lover’just doesn’t do it for me. It doesn’t scream sex god.”

“Oh and you’re such an expert?”

“Women often use my name interchangeably with god, so yes,” he said dryly.

“Good to see it hasn’t gone to your head,” I muttered.

I fell silent, irritated now. I thought about sex with Tyler and cringed because when I really thought about it, it was just okay. I came plenty of times with him but it was never tear-my-clothes-off-because-I-can’t-get-enough-of-you kind of sex.

“What else wasn’t accurate?” Oh, look who was curious now.

“I’m not in sales or a lawyer,” I answered.

“Ah, so the talking is a character flaw, got it.”

“You are just such a gem, you know that?”

“Hey, you’re the one who wanted to talk,” he said as he shrugged.

“Yes, because I’m bored,” I sighed. “I mean it’s beautiful out here, but it’s sooo monotonous.”
