If I thought that Lev might rescind his invitation to crash his date with Zara, I’m surprised when he doesn’t.
“Because falling for her means that I want to see her happy.”
I get that, but it doesn’t solve our problem. “I want that, too. And I want you and Ares to be happy, too. But at the same time, I don’t want to let Zara go. She’s it for me, Lev. If I hadn’t made that clear enough.”
“I feel exactly the same way, Chance.” Lev is more calm than I feel even as he drops a bombshell. “But I’ve been giving this situation some thought, and Zara and I talked about it. What if she didn’t have to choose between the three of us?”
I blink, unsure that I heard him right. “Come again?”
“What if we all kept dating her long term? She has feelings for each of us and she told me she isn’t any closer to making a decision. She doubts she’s ever going to be able to choose between us.”
Lev must have taken too many pucks to the head during training. We wear helmets and protective gear, but it’s the only thing that makes sense.
“Are you serious?” I bark out a laugh.
He shrugs. “Dead serious. I love you and Ares. You’re my brothers. I don’t want to see you heartbroken.”
I roll my eyes. “Me neither. But is this your solution? We all keep dating her?”
The disbelief in my tone doesn’t phase him. “Would that be that weird? I mean, you and I have even shared her in bed a couple of times. You can’t say that you didn’t have fun.”
“It was fun.” I agree, still trying to wrap my mind around Lev’s idea. “But I thought it was something we were doing for now and that it would eventually end once Zara made up her mind.”
I pull into his driveway and put my truck into park.
“What if it didn’t have to end? The way I see it, we can have fun as a threesome, maybe even a foursome. And we can still have one-on-one time with her. But that isn’t only about sharing her in bed. The three of us have always been tight and Zara could fit right in.”
The crazy thing is that I don’t think he’s totally wrong. “I must be even crazier than you, just for considering this.”
Lev chuckles, but it’s short-lived. His tone returns serious when he explains his thoughts. “When you think about it, Chance, it’s not that weird. We could make sure Zara is always loved and protected. None of us would have to give her up and we could be happy.”
The more Lev talks about it, the more the idea begins to make sense. “And she said she would be happy to date all three of us long term?”
“It would be her preferred option.” He confirms.
I run a hand through my hair just as Zara’s car arrives and parks by our side. “And do you think Ares would ever go for this?”
“I have no idea. I haven’t talked to him yet.”
Ares isn’t the only problem. If our parents are already against either of us loving Zara as more than a sister, I can only imagine their reaction if we told them that not only are Ares and I dating Zara, but that we’re sharing her with Lev.
“Don’t overthink it for now.” Lev knows me so well, he can almost read my mind. “Let’s figure out what we want first. We’ll think about our families and the rest of the world later.”
We get out of the truck at the same time as Zara exits her car.
“Hey, baby.” I pull her close and kiss her.
It takes seconds for the contact with her lips to lift my mood from the stress and the anxiety of a few minutes ago.
Lev comes to stand on her other side, taking her into his arms the second we break our kiss.
“I missed you, Zee.”
Seeing them kiss has become so normal that I don’t feel any jealousy. “I hope you don’t mind if I hang out with you and Lev today.” I say, as we walk toward the front door.
Zara wraps one arm around my waist, walking between me and Lev. “Not at all. You and I haven’t been able to spend much time together since Mom and Scott came back from their honeymoon, and I miss you. Thank you for asking him, Lev.” She says, guessing whose idea it was to have me join them.
“I knew you’d be happy, Zee.”
