Now he suspected there were houses of horrors all over the fucking country, maybe all over the world, and he had no idea how they’d put a stop to it.
“Bad, huh?”
Gregory gave a single nod of agreement, and Alaric went about patching Himeros up.
“There you go.” He patted Himeros’ knee. “Lose the underwear to be sure and get dressed in the new clothes.” Alaric gestured at the pile on the bed. All blue, Gregory realized. He nuzzled Thanatos’ hair.
“Where do we dump it all?” Alaric gathered the clothes and the bloody microchip or whatever it was.
“We can discuss it over dinner.”
Thanatos stirred in his arms. “Yes, the rice. We have to eat.”
Alaric raised an eyebrow at Gregory, and amusement shone in his eyes. “Whatever you want, lovely Thano.”
Thanatos froze, and Gregory growled, which, of course, made Alaric laugh.
They allowed Himeros to get dressed, then they went to the kitchen where the rest were waiting. Thanatos broke away from Gregory and placed the food on the table. “Dig in.”
Everyone sat, but Himeros was hovering by the table, looking tired enough to fall over.
“Sit.” Thanatos gestured at an empty place on the bench next to Prophecy.
Everyone ate. Himeros a bit hesitant at first, but when no one said or did anything, he fell over his plate as if he’d never seen food before. He was thin. Maybe they withheld food as a means of control. It made Gregory uneasy, but since he was allowed to be outside a facility, he suspected his reality hadn’t been the same as Thanatos and the others’.
“This is excellent, Thano. You should come live with me instead.” Alaric winked at him, and Gregory flashed fangs, which had him chuckling.
“I prefer the castle, thank you.”
Alaric only grinned, far too amused. Gregory shot Rufus a glance, but he was smiling too, the bastard.
“So how do we do it?” Jaki looked around the table.
“Any way you want, love. You know that.” Rufus wiggled his eyebrows exaggeratedly.
Jaki slapped him on the shoulder. “Stop it.”
“I have an unrelated question.” Minerva let go of her knife and reached for her glass. “We watched a lot of movies in the house of horrors. It was part of our education.”
Alaric and Amell both nodded.
“In most movies, I got the feeling being gay wasn’t common, and here I think Prophecy and I are the only ones who aren’t. Or I don’t know about you, Himeros, but I thought it was the other way around.” A light flush spread over her cheeks. “I don’t mean to offend anyone, but—”
“Not at all.” Alaric cut her off before she could continue. “Rufus, Gregory, and Amell are gay. I don’t care if my bed partners are male, female or something in between. In general, shifters aren’t picky. It’s Amell who is different.”
Amell flicked him off.
“So most werewolves are bisexual or…eh…pan?” Minerva looked confused, and Alaric shrugged.
“You’d have to ask them, but the movies aren’t lying. The majority of people are straight. You just happened to be rescued by the queer squad.”
Gregory snorted a laugh despite himself. He wanted to dislike Alaric, but it was hard.
Chapter 16
Thanatos was turning Alaric’s words around in his head. “Himeros, how does your skill work?”
Himeros looked up from his food, fear etched into his face. “What do you mean?”
