“Yeah, we need to get back to her place to relieve her gran’s friend Lila. Thank you for the tea, Grandpa.”
They both smiled knowingly at me as we stood to say goodbye. I shook Grandpa’s hand and to my shock, Grandma stood and hugged Abra, then me. Abra hugged Grandpa and then we were out the door. My head was kind of spinning.
When we got to the car, Abra tugged on my hand. “What’s going on?”
I shook my head, bringing my hands up to cup her jaw.
“I’m not sure. I’m still shocked at my behavior earlier. I’m so in love with you it makes me a little bit crazy. My grandma and grandpa are in love with you, and I’m so going to hear about this next time I’m here.”
I lowered my lips to hers and kissed her softly. When I pulled back, she had a blissful smile on her face.
“Thank you so much, Kelly, for this perfect day.”
If she thought this was perfect, I needed to up my game. Too bad things were going to get a little crazier.
“Abra. I really want you to let my sister come over and be with your mom, but I won’t push. I know you are going back to work in a few days and I will be working later for the next two weeks. I’m still in training for my new unit. Plus, I have some firearms training to complete and then physical training I have to get in. I don’t want to leave you handling this alone.” I was so worried.
Abra bit her bottom lip and nodded. “All right. Thank you, Kelly. I can’t pay her a full rate—”
“Doll, I told you. I’m paying her expenses right now. This will be good for everyone involved. I will arrange for her to come over tomorrow and meet with you. Does that sound okay?”
She nodded, suspiciously quiet.
“No arguments? Really?”
She shook her head, again, suspiciously quiet. I frowned, not sure how to take that.
“Good.Let’s get you home and I’ll run to the store. I want to cook up enough food to keep you guys in meals for a couple of days.”
She pulled my face down to hers and kissed me. I kind of forgot what I was saying.
