Chapter Sixteen

Abra

The drive took me about four hours and I didn’t even get lost! I pulled up to the hotel and left my car with the valet. I texted Stevie, and she said she and Aaron would be down in a bit to meet me for dinner. I got us an upgrade to a suite that sounded amazing. I couldn’t wait for Kelly to arrive. I almost didn’t want to go to the room without him, but I wanted to stash our stuff and get ready for the evening.

I’d been told it was swank here, but that was an understatement. Our suite was attached to the spa and we had a private pool. It was huge and way more than we needed, but I intended for us to use as much of the real estate as we could. I had no idea how long we would be staying. One of the exciting things about this runaway with Kelly had been that we hadn’t set rules; we hadn’t made plans more than to get here and see the show. I didn’t care. I just wanted him here. Now. I was getting anxious.

I perused the room and ran my fingertips over all of the surfaces. The bed was perfect. Just firm enough. There was a couch that had an almost furry texture as well as a huge platform of cushions. Lots of white around the pool. I tested the water and it was really warm. I pictured Kelly’s gorgeous skin illuminated by the lights below. I saw him laying me over the edge and taking me from behind. God, he needed to get here with a quickness.

I checked my phone and there were two messages. Stevie and Aaron were ready for dinner whenever I was, so I said I’d be right out. Kelly’s flight didn’t land until six, and it would take him about a half hour or so to get here from the airport. I made my way down to the lobby wearing my new outfit. A short black dress with sheer bits showing only netting, matching stockings, and black patent leather boots that laced up to just under my knees. I’d put my hair up into a complicated twist with just a few curled pieces hanging down and I’d done my makeup dark and dramatic. I went for the false eyelashes with thick liner and a darker red lipstick than I’d worn before. It contrasted nicely with my tanned skin. Three days in the sun had given me a lot of color, despite my sunscreen attempts. I wore some dangling hoops with crystal skulls and a choker with a skeleton cameo at the center. I even took a few minutes to paint my nails a nice sparkly black. I just needed my handsome angel to arrive.

We ate at the Hard Rock restaurant across the parking lot and we enjoyed the ’80s era videos on the screens. Aaron laughed at Stevie, who needed help identifying some of the bands.

“I forget you’re younger than me,” I said to her. She laughed and pushed her huge mane of red hair back over her shoulders.

“You two are old,” she said, pointing at us and laughing.

Aaron shook his head, but it was clear how much he loved her, how much she delighted him.

“So when is your hunk arriving?” Stevie asked with a giggle.

“Oh, leave the poor guy alone,” Aaron said. “It’s tough to be so good-looking.” He rubbed at his chin, and we both cracked up, knowing he totally didn’t have an ego about that stuff.

Don’t get me wrong, Aaron was a tall drink of sex on a stick. He had that dark-skinned, exotic thing going for him with bright, white teeth and a perfect smile. From what Callie told me, he and Stevie had really been through it, but you couldn’t tell now. He held her hand delicately up to his lips and kissed each of her knuckles and then rubbed his lips across them.

“He is pretty unbelievable, but I’m not really sure what he’s still hanging around for. He could have any woman.”

Aaron raised an eyebrow. “Abra,” he said in a fatherly voice that tickled me.

I leaned forward and rested my chin in my hand, and groaned. “Lay it on me.”

He rolled his eyes. “Abra, you are the kind of woman, like Stevie, who has that whole ‘unlock my mystery’ aura about you. Even when you were dating that woman last year, Katherine I think? Every guy at Open Mic was speculating what it would take to get a chance with you. Even Schroeder, who we all know is not the ladies’ man, wondered about you. He asked me a few times if he should ask you out.”

“And what did you say?” I asked him, curious as to where this was going.

Stevie smiled wickedly. “He told him he couldn’t handle you,” she said, cracking up.

I frowned. “I’m just me! What’s the big deal?”

Aaron looked a little uncomfortable, like he wasn’t sure what was safe to say in front of his wife. Or what might set me off into bitch-mode. “A lot of women try to put on an act to get you to chase them. They try really hard to be demure and do everything they think men want. But you, and my lovely wife, are the kind of women who keep a guy guessing because even though you say what you think, you just have a way about you that is hard to keep up with and figure out. With Stevie, she had these whiplash moods where one minute she was being serious, and the next she’d give me a look that said she wanted to strip me bare and eat me alive.”

Stevie blushed and turned her face into his shoulder. “I can’t help it. I did want to eat you alive. I still do. I’m so glad you brought those leather pants! I’ve been dying to see you in those damn pants. Doesn’t he have the best ass for leather pants?”

I covered my mouth as Aaron shook his head, his eyes closed.

“Do you see what I mean? She’s all adorable one minute, and the next she says something like that, and I can’t get up from the table.” He pulled her to him and kissed her deeply.

I could see her hands travel a little under the table. I was so turned on.

“So you may just have your man all tied up in knots like that. Take some pity on him.” Aaron had always had such a level head about things. I valued his advice.

“I love you two together. Very hot. But can I interrupt just long enough to get you to finish your thought, Aaron? I mean, I know I come on strong and everything, but I don’t want to be too much. I’m afraid I’ll scare him if I tell him what I really want.”

Aaron kept his arm around Stevie, but he nailed me with those dark brown eyes. “Abra, there’s two ways I can take that statement. Are you talking want like—”

“Yeah, I guess there are two ways. I’m afraid I’ll scare the shit out of him if I say I want more than just a road trip. And even though we’ve played…a lot…I haven’t let him totally in, you know? I haven’t totally opened up to him. I just don’t know how he’ll react to being completely intimate.” I sat back in my seat with my hands in my lap, feeling scared and defeated.

Aaron chuckled, however, which earned him an elbow from Stevie. “Ow! Come on! How is she going to scare him in bed? You going to wear a strap-on or something?”
