“Si us plau. See? I practiced.” I stretched my arms above my head and basked in the warm feeling and the beautiful view of Alonso walking around my flat naked, in search of his clothes from the night before.

He pulled on his jeans sans undies, as they were still wet from our shower. How thoughtful of him to have done that, to let me know that the shower was not for his sexual gratification. He had been so respectful of me, never pushing for more than I was ready to give him.

“I didn’t even ask…did you find out anything about last night?”

He shook his head. “No, but I’m going to call my commander this morning.” He tugged on his shirt and slid his feet into his boots. “He wants…hostia, I don’t like this. He wants us to go together to Ferrer’s next weekend.”

I sat up in bed. “Really? Okay. So I should RSVP like he asked?”

“Sí. You will need a suit if you don’t own one. From what my sources say, this gathering he is having is meant to be a fundraiser for the separatists under the guise of raising money to pay the legal fees of those arrested after the referendum, but we believe they are actually raising money for something else. I can’t tell you more than that, but these are dangerous people, Randall. Don’t forget that.”

“I won’t. But what name should I put for you?”

He grinned. “Alonso Rey.”

“King?” I laughed, and he held his hands out. “More like Alonso Dios,” I joked, and his cheeks flushed. “Come here, king, so I can kiss you once before you disappear.”

He knelt beside the bed and he led the kiss. When he pulled back, he examined the bandages on my forehead. “He did a decent job, but you might have a scar, amor. Lo siento.”

I shrugged. “As long as you still kiss me like that, I don’t care.”

That got me one more kiss.

“Stay in today? If you can. At least don’t go off alone. There may be more protests. Last night was a fluke, I think. But I don’t want to take a chance with you. And there will be more security around the school next week, Lara said. More parents have hired security for their children.”

“What do you think will end this? Seems an impossible situation.”

Alonso ran a hand through his curls. “No sé. I can only hope to stop something worse from happening.” He gave me a sad smile. “Stay safe. Get some rest. I’ll be back after dark tonight.”

“Yoube safe,” I said, because even though he was the expert in this situation, I would worry for him.

“Siempre, claro. Bon dia, amor.”

He blew me a kiss and walked out onto my balcony, climbing over the side.

Leaving me a whole day to…worry. And wait for Alonso to come back and hold me.

I RSVP’d to the Ferrers’ gathering, and then set to freaking out for the rest of the day. When he arrived late that evening, Alonso convinced me to have the girls take me shopping one day after school for a suit.

“Guess my cardigan isn’t fancy enough?”

We lay on the couch together in my flat watching a Jason Bourne film with the sound off and some soft piano music playing through my Bluetooth speaker. I was in my favorite cardigan and boxers. Alonso was gloriously naked and wrapped in a blanket like the gift that he was.

“I love that you mended it for me. Where did you learn to sew?”

“In the army. You tear your trousers enough times, you learn or your ass hangs out.” He fingered the collar of my sweater. “I see why you like this sweater so much. I love the color on you.”

“Thank you,” I said, kissing him. “I wore it for our first show after we signed with our label and it went so well, I decided it was my lucky sweater. Over the years it became like my securityblanket. I was so grateful I had it on when we got robbed or it would have been gone too.”

“You lost your instruments. Did they have sentimental meaning for you?”

“Yeah. My laptop had a lot of music on it that I’d recorded, songs in various stages of being finished. My three electric guitars and an acoustic guitar, plus my personal amp and head, my rack system and pedals. The acoustic was my first guitar, the one I learned how to play on. I played it at every show. Kinda felt like losing a limb.”

Alonso frowned off into the distance and ran a hand over his head, back and forth. “Have you gone to look at purchasing a new one?”
