“Well, it wasn’t hard to convince you.”
She stops and takes a breath. “Maybe I need to be convinced this isn’t a dream as well.”
I keep an arm locked around her back while I bend down to grab my shoes, then walk us to the path that leads back to her house.
“You can put me down, you know.”
“No, thank you.”
She giggles, and it makes my heart skip a beat. “Well, can you please get my shoes as well? They’re just at the end of the path.”
I spot them a few steps ahead, where the sand turns into stone. I shrug her up against my body so I can readjust my hold on her, then lower down to pick up her sneakers. My arms crisscross behind her back, a pair of shoes in each hand, while her arms and legs lock around me and I walk us back to her house.
The giddiness that fills me has me feeling like I’m floating. Nothing in life has ever had an effect like this on me. I remember securing my first investment, and the moment Grandpa announced me as the new CEO of Heart Assets. Those were satisfying achievements in life, and I remember thinking nothing could feel better. But fuck, holding Lex in my arms, calling her mine, I can’t remember ever feeling this happy. For a man as blessed in life as I am, it only makes me hold her even tighter.
“You might need to put me down now so I can let us inside,” she says as I walk up her front porch steps.
I put our shoes on one of the rocking chairs, then pick up her handbag, bringing it between us so she can search for her keys.
“Putting you down is non-negotiable, Siren.”
She shakes her head but still smiles as she digs through her bag and pulls out her keys. I take them from her hands so I can unlock the door and quietly let us inside.
“Is Claire home?” I whisper as I amble down the hallway towards her bedroom.
“Lee’s truck wasn’t out front, and she barely spends a night without him. Or maybe it’s him who refuses to spend a night without her.”
“Sounds like a smart man,” I say.
Her seashell lights are on again, illuminating the room. My body tingles, knowing I’m finally about to have her all to myself in a way I’ve barely been able to stop thinking about.
I turn to close the door and push her up against it, wedging her body in with mine. I kiss her hard with the desperation that’s consumed me since we first met.
My hands tighten against her flesh where they rest on her waist, and I’m insatiable. I need to have her naked skin against mine once again. I didn’t get to savour the feel of her the first time, her smooth.
I pin her harder against the door with my hips so I can pull her shirt over her head. My cock is rock hard and already wanting to release again, to sink into her.
I pull away from her lips so I can finish removing her top and then toss it aside. Lex’s hands frame my face, pulling my lips back to hers.
“Wait,” she says, almost out of breath. “I just spent ten hours on my feet in a hot nightclub, I need to shower first.”
I groan and fall against her lips. “I’ll let you shower, but only if I can join you.”
“You want to shower with me?” She laughs.
“Is that a trick question? Your body, wet and naked, please don’t deprive me of that.”
My hands roam up and down her torso, following the curve of her hips and waist. I lose my mind for a moment when I take in the sight of her breasts encased in black lace. It’s just sheer enough that I can make out her nipples, begging to be tasted. I dip down and gently wrap my teeth around her through the lace. She sighs and drags her hands through my hair, holding me to her chest. A shiver dances up my spine as her fingers scratch against the back of my head.
I run a hand behind Lex’s back and find the clasp of her bra to unhook it. She lets me drag the straps down her arms, and the second she’s exposed to me, I lean back in, taking one hard, peaked nipple into my mouth.
Lex moans, her head thrown back against the door, and her hips start grinding against me. My mouth alternates between biting her skin and tracing it with my tongue, while I palm her other breast.
Her sounds become more desperate. I push away from the door and walk us to her bathroom, blindly searching for the light switch.
“Caleb.” My name is a wild and urgent prayer as it falls from her lips.
“I know, baby. I’m gonna make you feel better.”
