Unfortunately, we can’t get to everyone simultaneously, so we have to triage the situation. It has made me feel sick to answer, “No, she’s not,” to that question over the last four years, but I’ve done it.
Because ultimately, she’s safer than many of the others we’ve helped.
It’s always been the plan to get her out.
But I’ve held hope that I’ll be able to get out with her, too.
“Alright, well, I’m going to stay here with her until you get here,”he continues when I don’t answer.“I’ll drop you a pin of where we are, but it’s near Omega Affairs.”
“Heard,” I respond before hanging up.
I’ve known Wyatt for six years. We met when I first joined up with Pack Lupine. His pack put the task force together when his brother went missing. When they finally found him, he was broken and bruised, but he worked hard to heal.
Now, he works alongside us, helping the Omegas we save through their grief and re-acclimation to society.
When my sister disappeared, Pack Lupine tracked her movements to the Conglomerate. It was a fight, but eventually, the guys agreed to let me go undercover, hoping to use my ties within the organization to save her and countless others.
While I was too late to save Monica, my work within the Conglomerate has helped me rescue thirteen Omegas over the last six years.
My heart is in my throat when I pull up outside the dark alley. I haven’t seen Crystal since she discovered everything I’ve been keeping from her, and I don’t know how she will react.
She said she’d never forgive me, and I don’t blame her.
But she’s my Omega, and I’m going to be in her life in whatever capacity she’ll have me.
Wyatt turns as soon as I step into the shadowed alley and greets me with a blinding smile. “Puck, good of you to join us. Crystal here was asking about ways to get out of the Conglomerate. Looks like she knows a bit about our organization. You wanna explain that?”
I shoulder past him to the Omega in question, resting my hands on her shoulders. She looks shaken but okay, and I run my hands soothingly down her arms. I wish I could smell her sweet shortbread scent, but I’m back on the pheromone suppressors for now.
I can’t risk getting caught by Kieran.
“Well, she’s my fucking scent match,” I bite out, turning to face him. “She deserved some answers once she realized I was lying about being a Beta.”
He takes a few steps back, nose wrinkling. “Your scent match? And you haven’t gotten her out yet? What the fuck, Puck?”
“That’s what I said!” she huffs.
Wyatt looks like he’s about to admonish me, but I cut him off. “I don’t need your judgment, Wyatt. You know as well as I do that both of us are too deep now to do much about it.” Crystal starts to protest behind me, but I wrap her small hand in mine. “I didn’t know she was my match until a few days ago. We need to make a plan to get us both out and keep the rest of her pack safe, but it’s not going to be easy.”
“Especially not now that he tricked my sister into giving him guardianship.”
I spin around, facing my Omega for the first time since she scrambled off my knot. “He did what?” I snarl.
Her clear, hazel eyes are hollow, turned down at the corners in exhaustion. She subconsciously rubs the back of her neck like the blighted bond is itching. “It’s why I came here. I tried to undo it, but since all the paperwork was legit, my sister just didn’t read what she fucking signed, I have to go to court to get it reversed. And let’s be real…” Her shoulders slump defeatedly. “I can’t beat him. I’m never going to be free.”
“We can figure it out,” Wyatt interjects. I forgot he was here momentarily and narrow my eyes at him. If anyone is going to save my Omega, it will be me.
“You haven’t even heard the worst of it,” she continues, oblivious to the tension that’s overwhelming me. I don’t like how my Omega talks to this other Alpha. “Puck has to deliver a male Omega to Kieran, or he will use me as collateral for some fucked up trade.”
“When were you planning on reporting this to the guys, Puck?” Wyatt’s voice is slow and quiet, his southern accent exaggerated. “Did you think you could handle this on your own?”
“No, I didn’t, but I’ve been a bit fucking busy, Wyatt. I was going to come to you.” Technically, we’re all equal partners, but Wyatt and his packarePack Lupine, which makes them the leaders. I still don’t like being scolded by him. “Do we have to do this here, in a fucking alley?”
He snorts but shoves his hands in his pockets. “No, I suppose not. When can you get to headquarters?”
“I’m good now. I’m technically on Crystal tailing duty.”
“I knew I was being watched!” she shouts, startling us both. “He’s had people watching my house, right?”
