T: Haha!
He didn’t respond back, and I wondered if I should send him another. I decided to leave the ball in his court and searched through my mother’s mixtapes. None struck me at the moment, so I scanned through the playlists on my phone.
Another text popped up, and I went to my messages.
L: Where did you have sex in public?
I winced.
T: In the back of a truck. A secluded spot, but still public.
A shocked faced emoji flung onto the screen, followed by a winking one. I typed out a question of my own.
T: What chick flick movie or movies did you cry to?
An angry-faced emoji was his reply.
T: Come on, spill it.
L: Steel Magnolias.
T: That one gets me every time.
L: Me too.
T: You’ve seen it more than once?
A brooding emoji popped up, and it fit him perfectly.
T: I’ll take that as a yes lol.
L: You said you’ve been out of state before. Where?
T: New Hampshire and Vermont.
L: That’s it?
T: Yup.
L: Do you want to travel anywhere else?
T: I don’t know. Never felt the need to. I like it here… not so much the rumors, but I love nature. I wouldn’t mind visiting other places, eventually, just to see what all the fuss is about. But I love my home.
I bit my thumbnail, wishing I could take back the last line, but it was too late.
L: I’m sorry.
Ignoring the ache sitting like a boulder on my chest, I changed the subject.
T: If Vivian wanted you back, would you try again with her?
My finger hovered over the send button, and then I quickly pressed it before I could change my mind.
L: Is this about me, or your decision about Austin?
T: Both. I want to know what you would do in my situation.
No texting bubbles came up, so I replied again.
