A dragonfly flew in front of me and landed on Lucas’s hand. He lifted his arm and examined it.
“Wow,” I said in awe.
“What?”
“Don’t you know what that means?”
“No.”
“There’s a saying that when a dragonfly lands on you, it is a soul who has passed on coming to comfort you … or sending you a message.”
He studied the dragonfly more closely, and I could swear it looked him in the eyes before it flew away.
“I think my mother would have left me pieces of her too, if she had had time.”
I slipped my hand in his. “She just did.”
He squeezed my hand but didn’t look my way. “Maybe.”
I nestled my head against his shoulder, my fingers still intertwined with his. I didn’t know what this would mean tomorrow or the next day, but for this moment, it was meant to be.
