Jonah’s brows lifted, wondering what was going on. He trusted Ben and Evan with his mate and turned to give RJ a quick kiss.

“I’ll be along in a few minutes. Beware of the ankle-biters! If they get to be too much, Evan will rescue you.”

RJ laughed, rolling his eyes. He wasn’t sure how to handle six kids at the same time.

“Thanks for the warning. See you in a bit.”

Jonah took off for the conference room. It seemed his time ensconced with RJ left him out of the loop, and why wasn’t Robyn at work today? He stopped dead at the threshold, confused by the room’s utter transformation and a stranger showing Robyn something on a computer screen. Picking up his scent, she waved him in.

“You better sit down. I need to explain a few things.”

Chapter 30

RJ FOLLOWED BEN TOa non-descript metal door and invited him to go on through. It opened to a short hallway which led to an oversized living area dominated by a wall of large windows. Natural light splashed over kid-tested furniture, extending into an adjacent dining room with an enormous oak table. While RJ looked around, Ben used the mind link to call for Evan.

“You have a beautiful home, Mr. Blair. I told Jonah earlier how much I liked the design of the buildings here. You’re very talented.”

Ben responded as Evan walked into the room.

“Thank you. Please call me, Ben; everybody here does. You already know my husband, of course. I have a lot going on today, so I’ll let you two chat for a minute. If it’s all right, we’d like to invite you and Jonah over for supper tomorrow night.”

“I don’t see a problem, but let me check with Jo first. I’m looking forward to it.”

Ben swooped in to kiss Evan, waving a hand as he turned to go.

Evan gestured to the large leather couch in the living room, and the two sat down. He heard the sound of children’s laughter, coming from somewhere out of sight. Curious, RJ asked about them.

“I understand you have six children? Jonah made it sound like I would get tackled when I walked in.”

Evan smiled, looking entirely too young to have such a large family.

“We do! One girl and five boys. They’re in the playroom with our nanny, Lance. Otherwise, they’d be right up in your face. You know how kids are.”

RJ shrugged.

“Actually, I don’t. I’m an only child without an extended family, so I haven’t been around kids much. Jonah and I have talked about it once already. I’m not opposed, just a little leery.”

Evan cocked his head and took a deep breath, pulling in RJ’s scent.

“If first impressions mean anything, I think you have the makings of a terrific dad. Anyway, I wanted to see how you’re doing after the last few days. Nothing private—I only want to make sure you’re OK.”

RJ blushed and tried to answer the question. These people certainly were open about... intimate matters.

“Tired and sore, but all right. Jonah is an amazing man, and I’m glad I could be here to help him. He doesn’t seem to be any worse for the wear, and I don’t know how he’s endured these weird fevers all by himself. I feel bad for the poor guy.”
