“Oh… So, you’re awake now,” I whisper to Samantha teasingly.

She giggles and her body convulses across mine. “Yeah, I figured if I stayed asleep, I’d get a few moments alone with you.”

“Did you, now?” I tease as I roll her onto her back. She’s wearing a tank that has risen over the swell of her belly and her amazing boobs are barely contained in the top. Her pajama pants have settled below her baby bump and she’s gorgeous as ever.

“Yeah, I’ve missed you.” Her husky morning voice fills me with desire.

I bend to kiss her, being careful not to put pressure on the babies as I settle between her legs with the lower half of my body. “I’ve missed you, too, beautiful.”

After I give her a scorching kiss, I make my way down her body by peppering her with kisses along the way. I swear in the last week of my absence, her boobs have gotten even bigger. I take the time to kiss the swell of each breast before I make my way down her protruding stomach.

When I get to her belly button, which is predominantly on display, I stop for a moment. I rub my nose along her navel back and forth. I can’t help but whisper, “Hey, babies. I’ve missed you, too. I can’t wait to meet you. Your ma and I are counting down the days until you arrive.” I lay my cheek along her stomach and continue, “You’re gonna have the best sisters and brother you could ever ask for.”

As if they were talking to me, Samantha’s stomach starts to roll. It almost feels as if they are stretching to wake up for the day. I see one ripple along Samantha’s upper abdomen and another in the lower half. Yes, I’ve seen them move before, but I’m still in awe each time. Suddenly, there’s a jab at my cheek.

“Damn, are you okay, Sam? That felt strong.”

She chuckles, so I know she’s okay. “You and your kids do nothing halfway.”

Suddenly, she gasps. “Rib,” comes out as a whisper. But then a beautiful smile appears on her face. “They’re happy their daddy is home.”

I sigh. “It’s been a long week. I’m sorry I was gone for so long. The mission took longer than expected and I was their only way out.”

My team had been assigned to help break up a human trafficking ring. When we found the girl that we were hired to recover, we learned there were more. There’s no way we could walk away and not recover all that were in the compound. With the help of DHS, I am happy to say twelve other women and girls were reunited with their families.

“I know. You’re a rock star in the air. I’ve missed you, but glad you were there to bring your team home safely.”If only she knew the details.

Suddenly, Samantha gasps and a look of panic crosses her face.

“What’s wrong?” I ask, wanting to jump into action to help.

“Bladder shot,” she moans. “Help me up, so I don’t wet the bed.”

I immediately get off the bed. She rolls to the side, then throws her legs over the edge, as if it’s a well-practiced move. I reach for her hand to assist her. She still has three more months until she’s full term, but she looks like she could pop sooner.

She places one hand on the swell of her stomach and the other at the base of her back. As she waddles though, I’ll never tell her I’d describe her walk as that, I can’t help but be in awe of the woman before me. She never complains, though I’m sure she can’t be comfortable. I start to follow her into the bathroom, when I hear a light knock on the door.

“Enzo,” Frankie whispers. “Do you think you can cook the pancakes I mixed up? I can’t turn on the stove without you or Mom downstairs.”

I glance at Samantha with a grin on my face. “Sure thing, sweetheart. I’ll be right down.” I grab a pair of pajama pants and a t-shirt.The life of being a parent. Though I wouldn’t have it any other way.

“Okay,” I hear Frankie say, and her feet retreat.

Samantha laughs. “Duty calls. Aren’t you glad you signed up for this?” Just as I finish dressing, she waddles my way. She wraps her arms around me and says, “Thank you.”

“I wouldn’t have it any other way,” I reply with complete honesty. I kiss her once more, then go off to make pancakes.

Once downstairs, I see Declan’s already up and watching TV in the family room. He has blankets strewn about and breakfast dishes at his side. It appears as if he’s been up for a while and he’s completely engulfed in the show he’s watching.

Frankie has the batter ready, so all we have to do is turn on the stove and warm up a pan. I cut some fruit while she focuses on making pancakes.

“How long are you home this time?” Frankie asks.

“For the next week or so, at least.” I place the fruit in the bowl next to me and wash the cutting board.

“Why do you have to go away so much?” Her voice has a slight quiver and she keeps her focus on the pancake in front of her, instead of looking me in the eyes, which instantly puts me on alert and makes my heart pang. I’m not used to having people care about me so much.

Though I can’t go into specifics, I think of a way to explain. “Well… sometimes people need Riggs and his team to help them. I’m the one who gets them there safely and bring them back. I don’t want to go away, but I’m needed. Lives literally depend on the work we do.”
