Chapter 38
“We’ve always done everything together.” Liam spread her shirt open with two fingers. “Why stop now?”
She let out a giggle, the happiness in it ringing loud and clear. The power was still off, and with the stormy clouds covering what would have been a beautiful sunset, the townhouse remained shadowed in darkness.
“Sounds like it’s about to get pretty bad out there,” she observed as he leaned in to trace the column of her neck with his lips. The relief of the truth being known was working overtime, creating an almost aphrodisiac effect. “We can’t walk back to Samuel and Evie’s place in bad weather, so I guess we should discuss how we do this whole starting over thing here.”
He laid a kiss on her collarbone. “One of the first things we’re doing is ending Sinclair. Be prepared to be thrown directly into the middle of it. I want you one hundred percent involved.”
“If you had let me in from the beginning, we might be further along.”
Gripping her ass with two hands, he hauled them together. “You have a point,” he murmured, kissing along her jawline. “And once that’s over, we’re going home.”
“I don’t like Texas.” She slid her hand in his pants, her fingers wrapping around the heavy length of him. They were squished together, making her work difficult, but she managed. “I want to move to Georgia when Evie does, or maybe here.”
“We can live on the moon if you want,” he murmured. “But I like the idea of Georgia. A fresh start in a new place.”
A fresh start. While the memories of their beginning were rooted here and in Texas, starting over needed to be a place they could make their own.
His busy mouth made its way to her ear to nibble. “Then I want us to make an appointment with your doctor to discuss options. If there’s nothing for us down that avenue, we’ll start getting on lists for adoption.”
All movement halted as what he’d said sunk in. “Are you sure?” Stinging tears rimmed her eyes, but she batted them back. There would be no crying during sexy times. “This is a big discussion, and I don’t want you to decide just yet. We’re both emotional right now.”
“What name did you pick out?”
And he called her a master manipulator.
“Zoey.”
Leaning back to meet her gaze, he smiled in a way that had her heart bouncing down into her stomach and back again. “Zoey Cohen sounds like she’s going to be a badass.”
Tangling her hands in his hair, she pulled him to her, kissing him with every ounce of regret she’d harbored since that awful day. “I love you,” she whispered against his mouth. “I love you so much.”
A kiss shouldn’t have the power to heal. It shouldn’t be able to transform. To make everything shiny and new.
But this one did.
With a press of lips and a sweep of tongues, a need not met in months unleashed on them. A homecoming. Raw and real, it ateaway at any patience left.
Exploring her skin as if relearning a map he had traveled a thousand times, Liam’s hands drifted over her body, leaving no part untouched. Doing the same, her palms traveled down his shoulders, making their way to his chest and stomach. Her fingers skated over the line of hair under his navel, causing a shiver to course through him.
“Upstairs.” Ending their kiss, he ran his tongue over the pulse thundering in her neck. “I need room to fuck you properly.”
Not about to argue, she wrapped her arms around his neck when he lifted her to carry up the stairs. “Guest bedroom, please. I already feel bad about the dining room table.”
Turning right at the top of the stairs, he dropped her on to the small double-sized bed in the first room they came to. “This will work.”
Shucking his pants and underwear off, he fell upon her, and if she thought he had seemed out of control at the kitchen table, it was nothing compared to this. Deliciously feral and beyond reasoning, he dropped to his knees, dragging her to the edge of the bed by her ankles.
“Show me.” The order was given on the edge of a growl, his gaze locked between her thighs. She hadn’t had time to remove her thong, but that apparently didn’t matter. When she spread her legs, Liam ripped the material right off her body. “Wider.”
She did as he asked, leaving her completely exposed. His dark eyes never wavered, soaking in the sight with a lick of his lips. “I am going to destroy this.”
Splaying a hand on her lower abdomen, he stretched his fingers wide, his thumb extending to the sensitive bundle of nerves dying to be touched. With slow, precise movements, he stroked in circles with just the right amount of pressure. Anticipation fluttered low in her belly, forcing her hips to buck right off the mattress. In an instant, he was there, tongue deep, and catching her mid-air to roll over his face.
She chanted his name, begging for him to love her forever.
“I belong to you, Liam.”
